Eurovision 2023: City Council of Liverpool will spend £2 million to host Eurovision

The City Council of Liverpool has stated that it will spend £2 million to host the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 in this city in the United Kingdom.

BBC, EBU, and British government

The rest of the costs will be covered by the national British broadcaster BBC, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), and the British government. The BBC has stated that this amount will be around £10 million, which makes the grand total £12 million to host the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 in Liverpool.

COVID-19 recovery and culture budgets

The £2 million of the City Council of Liverpool are funds from Liverpool’s COVID-19 recovery and culture budgets. The huge number of extra visitors the contest will generate for the city of Liverpool and subsequent support of the arts means the contest will benefit the sectors which were hit the hardest by the COVID-19 pandemic. In the years after the global pandemic the city of Liverpool takes on an event that ensures value for the city and paves the way for a bright future.

Tender to find a stewarding and security firm

Because of the event, the city of Liverpool has put out a tender to find a stewarding and security firm to secure the Pier Head city site in Liverpool; this site will host the annual Eurovision Village and its venue. The contract for the firm which gets this assignment is valued at 85,000 pounds.

Eurovision 2023

The Eurovision Song Contest 2023 will be held on May 9th, 11th, and 13th 2023 in Liverpool. The United Kingdom stepped in to host an Ukrainian-British song contest in 2023, after Ukraine’s win in 2022 with the group Kalush Orchestra and their song “Stefania”. Because of the ongoing war in Ukraine against Russia it is not possible for Ukraine to organize the contest on home soil. The United Kingdom ended in the runner-up position in 2022 when Sam Ryder competed with the song “Space Man”, so they were first in line to get the opportunity to host the next contest.
