Eurovision Eurovision 2019 Italy

Italy: Sanremo 2019 winner will decide on Eurovision participation again

For the 5th consecutive year, the winner of the prestigious Italian music festival will be given the chance to represent Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest

It is actually more than proved that Sanremo singers have earned plenty of success when participating at Eurovision with their competing songs in the Italian music festival. Once again, it will be up to the winner of 69th edition of Sanremo next year whether he, she or they want to compete at Europe’s favourite TV show in May. Just in case the winner declines, RAI will then approach the next suitable singer for the competition, as it happened in 2016 with Francesca Michielin and band Stadio.

Back in June, Italian public broadcaster RAI announced the official dates for the festival and today, the corporation went on to add the rules which any participating singer or composer must follow as well as how the shows will run throughout the scheduled nights when the festival takes place in February. Claudio Baglioni has been appointed again as the artistic director for the live shows which will be held from February 5 to 9 at the Ariston Theatre in the small town of San Remo. He will be in charge of finding the best acts and songs for the show in cooperation with record labels as well as the broadcaster who will approach a committee for this task.

  • Serata 1: February 5th (Tuesday)
  • Serata 2: February 6th (Wednesday)
  • Serata 3: February 7th (Thursday)
  • Serata 4: February 8th (Friday)
  • Serata 5: FINALE – February 9th (Saturday)

Since 2015 all winners of Sanremo accepted their right to represent Italy in Eurovision, among them we find Il Volo, who came in 3rd place in Vienna; Francesco Gabbani, who achieved the 6th place in Kiev and Ermal Meta & Fabrizio Moro rising up to the top 5 in Lisbon thanks to the televote, with the performance of their meaningful anthem “Non Mi Avete Fatto Niente”.

Italy is officially gearing up to offer the European audience their best act for 2019. Mark the dates in your calendar and stay tuned for further information on who’s been rumoured to take part in the competition!
