Eurovision 2023: Both the host country and last year’s winner have drawn their positions

Both Ukraine, last year’s winner, and the United Kingdom, one of the hosting countries have drawn their positions in the Grand Final of the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest in Liverpool, United Kingdom.

Head of Delegation meeting

During the Head of Delegation meeting on March 13th 2023 both Ukraine and United Kingdom drew their position in the Grand Final of the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest. The Executive Supervisor, Martin Österdahl, did the draw.

This year’s draw was a little different than other years, because this year’s hosting country is not the winner, but the United Kingdom stepped in to host the contest, because of the ongoing war with Russia, so Ukraine, last year’s winner, cannot organize the contest on home soil. This means that during the Head of Delegation meeting both Ukraine and the United Kingdom drew their positions.

The position of the host country and last year’s winner

Below you can see the positions of Ukraine and the United Kingdom in the Grand Final on May 13th 2023. The 2023 Grand Final will see 26 contestants.

  • Ukraine – 19th position
  • United Kingdom – 26th (last performance of the evening)

The full running-orders of the Semi-finals will be decided in the upcoming weeks, because this is up to the Directors of the live shows; the reason for this is to create the best show possible, and to not have several ballads one behind another. The Semi-finalists do know in which of the two Semi-finals they will be, and in which half of that specific Semi-final.

The other four countries of the Big Five (France, Germany, Italy, and Spain) will be randomly placed in the Grand Final of 2023. When it comes down to the qualifiers of the Semi-finals, they will draw their position, in the sense of which half in the Grand Final, after they all qualify; eventually the Grand Final running-order will be disclosed in the days after the Semi-finals.
