Eurovision Eurovision 2016 Australia

Australia: Dami Im pointed as Eurovision entrant by local media

UPDATE: OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT

All eyes set on Sydney tomorrow. Conchita Wurst live from Sydney’s Opera House will be ready to reveal the name of this year’s Australian Eurovision act from 10.30 CET but while we are getting prepared for the big moment, Australian press has dared to point somebody as the chosen one… drums drums, DAMI IM!

First, fans thought it was all about Delta Goodrem who already tried luck by representing the country as a composer in the Junior Eurovision 2015 with My Girls who was sang by Bella Paige (runner-up of The Voice of Australia). Despite this all, when some rumors came to her, Delta denied having been approached to represent the country (perhaps she could have rejected the proposal…).

Right after this, Australian tabloid The Sydney Morning Herald revealed Im, who’s been one long fan favorite since EBU decided to include the country in the competition, as the one appointed for the task in Stockholm.

Of course, nothing is official until tomorrow. It’s certainly true that Dami could have been tempted to do the contest last year but no more information has transcended on this.

Dami Im is 27 year-old South Korean girl who moved to Australia with her family at the age of 9, where she was raised up. She grew up in a family of musicians, as her mother is an opera singer, and already at the age of 4, Dami started singing and playing piano. Dami rose to fame on series five of the Australian X Factor back in 2013 crowned as the winner with fellow Ruth’s Lorenzo’s friend and Kylie Minogue’s sister Dannii, as her mentor. Since then, she has scored a number one album in the country, Heart Beats, with Sony Music Australia as well as two Platinum singles. Before taking part in X-Factor Dami Im had already released one album, Dream, which came in 2010 and was recorded to raise money for the church.

Listen to Gladiator, one of Dami’s biggest songs below and stay tuned for tomorrow’s official announcement of the Australian entry at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest in Stockholm.
