Belgium’s 2026 Eurovision journey up to now

Belgium, just like all the other 2026 Eurovision participants, is well on their way in their journey towards the biggest annual European music stage. In this regard, Belgian participant Essyla, is doing her utmost to be seen, and to not be overlooked when she performs in the First Semi-final on May 12th 2026 in Vienna, Austria.

Joined by four dancers

Rehearsals of Essyla’s performance have started some months ago, and we know now that she will be joined by four dancers on the Eurovision stage. This news came about because it was released by the Belgian French-language broadcaster, RTBF. This means that Essyla’s song will get a certain je ne sais quoi to it, and that the performance will show the song’s danceability.

Live performance

On April 7th 2026 Essyla performed her Eurovision entry “Dancing On The Ice” live for the first time in the Belgian French-language version of talent show The Voice. During this performance the four dancers, as written above, were also present. Unfortunately the singer got a lot of critique on her performance, coming from both the French-language part of Belgium, as well as the Flemish-speaking part. The performance, according to critics was called out for being “lackluster”, but also “uninspired”, but most of all “badly sung”, all things Essyla will need to catch up on before her live performance on the Eurovision stage.
