Ukraine 2023: 2022 winner chooses its next representative this weekend

This weekend, on Saturday December 17th 2022 at 16:00 CET, this year’s winner and one of the host nations of the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest, Ukraine, will choose its next representative. The Ukrainian national final, Vidbir 2023, will be organized in the war-torn capital of Ukraine, Kyiv.

The group Kalush Orchestra won the 2022 contest in Turin (Italy) with the song “Stefania“, marking Ukraine’s third victory in the Eurovision Song Contest.

The hosts of Vidbir 2023

The hosts of Vidbir 2023 will be the following 3: Timur Miroshnychenko, Zlata Ognevich, and Kateryna Pavlenko, as was announced by the Ukrainian national broadcaster, Suspilne.

The hosts are not unfamiliar in the world of Eurovision as Timur Miroshnychenko has been the Ukrainian Eurovision commentator of the contest since 2017 (and it is rumoured that he will also be one of the hosts during the upcoming contest in Liverpool, the United Kingdom). Next to this Miroshnychenko co-hosted the contest of 2017. Zlata Ognevich has represented Ukraine in the contest of 2017 in Malmö (Sweden), finishing 3rd on the scoreboard with the song “Gravity”. Kateryna Pavlenko is the singer of the band Go_A which was chosen to participate for Ukraine in 2020 (cancelled), and in 2021, where Go_A finished 5th in the Grand Final.

The jury of the Ukrainian national final was chosen by the public, and the 3 jury members are the following:

Eurovision 2023

Next to Ukraine competing in the contest, and immediately placing themselves for the 2023 Grand Final as they are the winner of the 2022 contest, Ukraine will also host an alternative song contest in Liverpool (United Kingdom). It is not possible, because of the war, for Ukraine to organize the contest in their own country, and that is why the UK has stepped in to organize it together with them in the UK. The Eurovision Song Contest 2023 will therefore exuberate an Ukrainian-British atmosphere.
