Tonight: TG4 starts broadcasting Junior Eurovision Song Contest Éire 2018

The first episode of the Irish national selection for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2018 will be aired today. 32 candidates will compete for over five weeks of shows to represent Ireland on November 25 in Minsk.

As in previous editions, all shows have been filmed prior to the broadcast, so TG4 will air them pre-recorded. That means the winner is already working on preparations for the international song contest. The 32 entrants, who were selected through live auditions held nationwide, will compete in the national selection performing self-written original songs in Irish.

Junior Eurovision Eire 2018 will be hosted by Eoghan McDermott, while the resident judges, Fiachna Ó Braonáin and Gráinne Bleasdale, will be joined by a guest judge from Ireland’s Eurovision past. The guest judges will be Dustin the Turkey (2008), Brian Kennedy (2006), Niamh Kavanagh (1993, 2010), Linda Martin (1984, 1992) and Ryan O’Saughnessy (2018).

The show schedule:

  • First Semi-Final – October 14th
  • Second Semi-Final – October 21st
  • Third Semi-Final – October 28th
  • Fourth Semi-Final – November 8th
  • Final – November 11th

The first semi-final of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest Éire 2018 will be broadcast today at 21.30 CET on TG4.

  1. Not true, the winner was decided just 2 weeks ago, not months ago. That was the case last year, not this year.
