Sweden: Melodifestivalen 2015 season begins in September

Melodifestivalen’s 2015 season kicks off in September. Composers and writers can start sending their songs to SVT (svt.se/melodifestivalen) from the 1st September 2014 at 9:00 CET until the 16th September 8:59 CET.

Last year, the organizers wanted to have at least one female composer/writer to at least 20 percent of the competing songs. In 2015 they raise that percentage to 50 which means that 16 out of the 32 songs will have at least one female composer/writer.

There are two categories in the selection process. Composers who enter the contest for the first time, send their songs to “Allmänhetens tävling” (General/public’s contest) and the composers who have taken part before, send their songs to “Ordinarie tävling” (Ordinary contest). SVT states that it’s the songs that compete and not the composers.

As usual, the songs will be chosen by SVT and a jury group. The final line-up will include the winner of “Svensktoppen Nästa” and the winner of “Allmänhetens tävling”.
