Sweden: 2 478 songs for Melodifestivalen 2017!

Swedish public broadcaster SVT (Sveriges Television) has just announced they have received a total of 2.478 songs for the next edition of their popular music extravaganza Melodifestivalen.

Now, it is time for an internal panel made up of music industry and media professionals, lead by music journalist Karin Gunnarson, to pick the final 14 who will join the 13 acts invited by the broadcaster itself and the winner of Svensktoppen nästa 2016 ”Les Gordons” who won the competition back in the very last days of August.

Executive producer and Swedish Eurovision Head Christer Björkman stated to be satisfied with the number of entries they got which does not differ too much from last year. He also adds they want new songwriters, who could achieve relative success on the charts during the last spring season, to be involved in the competition from this year onwards and seems that they got a good response from the kind.

Regarding to the new Chairman: ”Karin’s exactly what we’ve been looking for. She has both the innovative thinking and knowledge of the industry and sense of what Melodifestivalen needs”, Björkman says.

”New artists, songs and sounds are a never ending source which year after year keeps on fascinating and interesting me. It is a privilege to work and share it to a large and enthusiastic audience. I’m incredibly proud to be a part of SVT and the Eurovision Song Contest”, says Karin Gunnarsson.

Gunnarson has worked at Sveriges Radio P3 as music editor for over ten years with music-related projects P3 Gold, Musikhjälpen and P3 Love tour. 2013 was Karin’s first year in Melodifestivalen selection panel and she has participated in the jury since back then.

The 28 acts taking part at Melodifestivalen 2017 will be revealed during a press conference held at the very end of the autumn as it uses to happen every year.

Frans took the country to another top 5 rank at the final of this year’s Eurovision Song Contest held in Stockholm. Will they get to be as successful as they were during the past years? Stay tuned!
