This is “La Poupée Monte Le Son,” Luxembourg’s entry for Eurovision 2025

The connection between Laura Thorn and the Parisians Julien Salvia (composer) and Ludovic-Alexandre Vidal (lyricist) was established in Belgium. A former vocal coach of Laura’s at the Higher Institute of Music and Pedagogy in Namur recommended her name to the authors, who were searching for a voice for “La Poupée Monte Le Son.” The title is a direct reference to “Poupée de Cire, Poupée de Son,” the song with which France Gall won Eurovision representing Luxembourg 60 years ago.

The lyrics of the chosen song address themes such as independence and self-empowerment, with the protagonist rejecting being seen as a “poupée parfaite” (perfect doll) who only smiles and stays silent when told to. Thus, the song aims to break away from traditional stereotypes and expectations, sending a powerful message about resisting being controlled by others. Laura Thorn, the singer, enthusiastically embraced the proposal from the very beginning:

“I was excited about this project as a tribute to France Gall, especially because it’s a completely different style from what I usually sing. I really enjoy playing with irony and provocation, which are the foundation of the song.”

Who is Laura Thorn? Meet Luxembourg’s representative at Eurovision 2025

Although Laura was already positioned on the podium in the betting odds, she is an unknown face to the public. Music has been a part of her life from a very young age, whether through training or playing different instruments. During secondary school, Laura already focused on music, which led her to continue her professional studies and complete a master’s degree in music theory, pedagogy, and pop singing at the Higher Institute of Music and Pedagogy in Namur, Belgium. She is currently a professor at the Escher Conservatory, where she shares her experience and passion for music with her students. She is skilled in several instruments, including piano, cello, and keyboard.

Another of her great passions is sports, as for the artist, the body is a true instrument whose physical condition is directly linked to the ability to deliver high-quality performances and control her breathing. Her disciplined routines have been part of her preparation for the Luxembourg Song Contest, and now, it’s time to maintain them for her performance in Basel!

Luxembourg at the Eurovision Song Contest

In 2024, Luxembourg made its long-awaited return 30 years after its last participation in Millstreet 1993 and 40 years after the country’s last victory, with Corinne Hermès and her song “Si La Vie Est Cadeau.”

The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg has 5 victories across its 38 participations in the competition, making it one of the most successful countries in the history of the contest. It was one of the founding countries of the Eurovision Song Contest in 1956. Over the years, Luxembourg has only missed the competition in 1959.

Among the great names in music who have represented the country are Jean-Claude Pascal (1961 and 1981), Nana Mouskouri (1963), France Gall (1965), Vicky Leandros (1965 and 1973), Anne-Marie David (1973), Baccara (1978), Lara Fabian (1988), and Sarah Bray (1991). Many of them did not hold Luxembourgish nationality, which is a unique characteristic of some of the country’s representatives.

In its 38 participations, Luxembourg has always competed with songs in French, except in 1960 and 1992 when they were entirely in Luxembourgish. Additionally, in 2024, they also opted for English.

Luxembourg has placed in the Top 10 of the competition 20 times. However, it has finished last in 3 editions (1958, 1960, and 1970).

The country has hosted Eurovision 4 times (1962, 1966, 1973, and 1984), with the Villa Louvigny and the Grand Théâtre de Luxembourg being the venues that have hosted the contest.

Luxembourg’s last participation before its withdrawal was by the group Modern Times with “Donne-Moi Une Chance” in Millstreet 1993, which resulted in 20th place with only 11 points. The following year, a major restructuring at the Luxembourgish channel led to its permanent withdrawal.

Finally, Luxembourg made a grand return to the Eurovision Song Contest in 2024. Tali with her song “Fighter” took on the great challenge of bringing the country back to the European competition. After successfully reaching the grand final, she finished in 13th place with 103 points.
