THE SHOW FORMAT
Last year, the format of the contest underwent a few changes, which will remain at this year’s shows. Like last year, a jury made up of all the members of the orchestra and choir will have a say at the third show.
- First night (March 2nd):
- The first 13 ‘Campioni’ will present their competing entries for the first time. The voting of the first show will be fully up to the demoscopic jury (a jury selected by RAI that represents the Italian population). A preliminary ranking of the 13 candidates will be revealed at the end of the show.
- The first 4 artists from the ‘Nuove Proposte’ will also perform for the first time. The demoscopic jury, the press jury and the audience will decide which two of them will advance to the final at the fourth show.
- Second night (March 3rd):
- The last 13 ‘Campioni’ will present their competing entries for the first time. The voting of the second show will be fully up to the demoscopic jury (a jury selected by RAI that represents the Italian population). A preliminary ranking of all 26 candidates will be revealed at the end of the show.
- The last 4 artists from the ‘Nuove Proposte’ will also perform for the first time. The demoscopic jury, the press jury and the audience will decide which two of them will advance to the final at the fourth show.
- Third night (March 4th):
- The 26 ‘Campioni’ artists will cover songs of the history of the singer-songwriters either alone or with national or international guest artists. The orchestra and choir will vote this time, and a preliminary ranking resulted from the combination of votes from all previous shows will be revealed at the end of the show.
- Fourth night (March 5th):
- The 26 ‘Campioni’ artists will perform their entries again. The press jury, made up of radio, TV and web journalists, will decide the results of the show. A preliminary ranking resulted from the combination of votes from all previous shows will be revealed at the end of the show.
- The 4 ‘Nuove Proposte’ contestants that had made it to the final will perform their entries again. A combination of votes from the demoscopic jury, the press jury and the public will determine the winner of ‘Nuove Proposte’.
- Final night (March 6th):
- The 26 artists will perform their entries for the last time. The public will vote for their favourites and decide the results of the show. As usual, the three superfinalists will be decided after adding up the votes of all previous shows.
- At the superfinal, the winner of Sanremo 2021 will be decided by the combination of votes from the demoscopic jury (33%), the press jury (33%) and the audience (34%), but, this time, the points will be reset. So, only the points of the superfinal will help choose the final winning entry.
