Today the band Hooverphonic has released the song they will perform in Rotterdam to achieve Belgium’s second victory at the Eurovision Song Contest.
The song “The Wrong Place” has been unveiled on NMN’s De Grote Peter Van de Veire Ochtendshow. Subsequently, the video clip has been uploaded to the Official Eurovision YouTube channel.
The Belgian band announced at the end of 2020 that they were working on their song, having several proposals. Alex Callier, bassist and leader of the group, explained that they had two main options. The decision was tough but eventually “The Wrong Place” was the winner.
It should be noted that the group will go to Rotterdam with a new vocalist, Geike Arnaert, after getting rid of the previous one, Luka Cruysberghs, due to Geike’s past with the band. She had been with Hooverphonic from 1997 to 2008.
Hooverphonic were chosen internally by the Belgian public broadcaster VRT back in 2020 with the song “Release me” but the cancellation of the contest due to the ongoing pandemic prevented them from performing in Rotterdam. They were chosen again this year, and they will perform in the second part of the first semifinal next May 12th. Will they qualify for the final?
