Interview Eurovision Eurovision 2016 Poland

Dorota Osinska: “People claim they cry and have shivers while listening to Universal” (Polish finalist – Exclusive Interview)

ESC+Plus has talked to Dorota Osinska, finalist of this year’s Polish national selection for Eurovision. Dorota will perform “Universal” in the final of Krajowe Eliminacje 2016 set on March 5.

E+: Hello! First of all, thank you so much for your time and congratulations on having been selected to take part in the Polish national selection for Eurovision 2016!

Thank you! 🙂

E+: Can you tell us about you, your musical career and important achievements?

I’m a singer, an actress, a happy wife and a mother of two great kids. I have been performing on the stage for more than 15 years already and I have released 3 albums. It has been a long and winding road, which is now beginning to lead in the right direction. Last year I performed as an honour guest in duet with Jose Carreras, I started to work on a new album with a world-famous composer and producer Rick Allison and now I have been selected to the Polish Finals of Eurovison Contest.

E+: What impelled you to take part in “Krajowe Eliminacje 2016?

It was a spontaneous decision made at the last-minute. Currently we are working with Rick Allison mentioned above and when we heard about Polish selections, Rick told me that he had a perfect song for that. When I heard it I knew that was IT.

E+: How did you feel when you knew you had been selected to compete at the Polish final? Did you expect it?

To be honest, deep down inside me I did expect it because “Universal” it’s a great song written by an ingenious composer and producer. There was simply no other option 🙂 Obviously I feel very happy to be one of the TOP NINE in the Final Selection.

E+: What would it mean to you to represent Poland?

It would be a great honour and a big responsibility as well. I would do my best to try repeat our success that took place in 1994 thanks to Edyta Górniak.

E+: Can you tell us about your song? What is the story behind the lyrics?

“Universal” was composed and produced by Rick Allison and the lyrics were written by Tinatin Japaridze and Phil Galdston. It’s a great and powerful song. It’s about something we all know but sometimes forget. We are all people having the same needs, hopes and dreams.

E+: Why do you think your song has to be selected for Stockholm? What are you strengths to reach the top in the competition?

Just listen to it (laughs). It’s a very well written song, a very moving and touching one. People claim they cry and have shivers while listening to that. I strongly believe that this song may have the impact on people, it’s not an ordinary tune, one of hundreds, that we hear on the radio every day. At least I hope so 🙂

E+: Have you started to prepare your stage performance for “Krajowe Eliminacje 2016”?

Yes, work is in progress.

E+: Do you usually watch Eurovision? What are your favorite songs in the history of the competition?

Of course I watch it every year. In my opinion every year there are exceptional artist with great songs. And as far as Poland I think Edyta Górniak has been the best.

E+: If you could choose a Eurovision former participant to sing along with, who would it be?

I do have my favourite participants I would love to sing with but I don’t want to say it loudly… yet 🙂

E+: Besides Eurovision, what are your plans for this year?

We are currently working on the album with Rick Allison and for now it’s a priority. We plan to release it in autumn at the latest. We believe that participation in Polish Eurovision selection is a first important step in promoting my cooperation with this great composer and producer.

E+: Finally, can you send a message for our readers and Eurovision fans?

Please keep your fingers crossed on March the 5th, enjoy listening to “Universal” and obviously do enjoy the entire Eurovision show in May! 🙂

E+: Thanks for your time and good luck!

Thank you!
