Hungary has just taken the first step towards finding its representative for this year’s ESC in Lisbon.
In a sharp, nicely presented show, ten very varied acts faced the TV viewers, the studio audience and the professional jury – dressed in black, presumably to make them just a bit more scary! I particularly enjoyed jury member Károly Frenreisz vocally recreating the riff from the Deep Purple classic ‘Smoke on the Water’ when commenting on Leander Kills’ song. A magic moment!
The First Five Qualifiers:
So, the five acts selected to proceed as a result of the first round of voting were:
- Leander Kills: “Nem szól harang” (44 points)
- Zsolt Süle: “Zöld a május” (44 points)
- Viktor Király: “Budapest Girl” (43 points)
- Ceasefire X: “Satellites” (41 points)
Gabi Knoll: “Nobody to die for” (40 points)
Saved by the Public!
This quintet was joined, after the second round of voting, by:
- Tamás Vastag: “Ne hagyj reményt” (36 points from the judges)
Together, the successful six have now booked their places at next month’s Semi-Finals… The other four acts who performed tonight – Noémo, Living Room, Fourtissimo feat. Markanera and Patikadomb – sadly head home.
Phew! Not sure I can stand another two months of this tension!!! I’m already suffering from what doctors call ‘ENSF’ – Eurovision National Selection Fever…
And there’s no known cure.
