Germany 2024: New entrant will be chosen on February 16th 2024

On September 7th 2023 it became known that Germany will choose its next Eurovision entrant on February 16th 2024, and that there will be a new format to choose the entrant with the name, “Eurovision Song Contest – Das Deutsche Finale 2024”.

Submission window is open

The German national broadcaster, NDR, has opened the submission window for the 2024 contest, and whoever wants to participate can do so until October 5th 2024. The German national final will take place on February 16th 2024.

The rules to submit a song

The rules to submit a song are very straightforward and also apply to the Eurovision Song Contest itself. These rules are the following:

  • A maximum of 6 people on stage.
  • The age of an applicant needs to be no younger than 16.
  • The submitted song has to be no longer than 3 minutes.
  • The song that is submitted cannot be released before September 1st 2023.

Promotion through TikTok

Just like last year artists that submit a song or want to participate in general can promote themselves and their song through the TikTok platform, and this year they can use the hashtag #EurovisionGermany2024 to do so.

The German national final format

Germany will have a new national final format, meaning that the national final has a new name, and a new way to decide the upcoming Eurovision artist. The name of the new format is “Eurovision Song Contest – Das Deutsche Finale 2024”, which will be broadcast live from Germany’s capital, Berlin on Tv channel, Das Erste, and simultaneous the broadcast can be watched online on Eurovision.de, and on the streaming service ARD Mediathek.

Eurovision 2023

In the Eurovision Song Contest of 2023 the rock band, Lord of the Lost, participated for Germany with the song “Blood & Glitter”. Germany finished last (of 26) in the Grand Final of 2023, just like in 2022.
