EXCLUSIVE: EBU is open to more countries for Junior Eurovision 2020!

The EBU’s Senior Communications Officer has revealed to ESCplus that the list of countries of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2020 isn’t the final one as they’re open to new countries in case they want to join this year’s edition. So, there’s a possibility we’ll see more than the initial 13 countries competing on 29th November.

Yesterday, the list of participating countries of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2020 was published. Immediately, many fans showed their concerns and looked very upset because it was a very low number of participants compared to previous years. We’re happy to give them a little bit of hope as the European Broadcasting Union has confirmed to us this isn’t the final line-up. They’re open to new countries if they want to join the contest up to the maximum of 20:

The list of participating broadcasters we released today isn’t necessarily the final one – indeed, we would welcome other nations coming on board to JESC 2020, up to our maximum of 20 broadcasters., said EBU’s Senior Communications Officer

So, does it mean that more countries could join the Junior Eurovision 2020 line-up in the coming weeks? Is the EBU open to allow their participation and update the list of countries? Is there is a new deadline for the countries to confirm participation for this year’s junior contest?

Yes, the EBU is very open to that. I can’t give you a specific deadline at this point, but commonsense probably dictates that if additional broadcasters do want to come on board, then we’d like to hear from them sooner rather than later! she added.

You can see the current list of countries below:

  • Armenia
  • Belarus
  • France
  • Georgia
  • Germany
  • Kazakhstan
  • Malta
