Yesterday The Draw (formerly known as the “Allocation Draw”) of the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 was held in Malmö (Sweden). The reason why The Draw is being held is to know in which of the two Semi-finals the Big Five Countries and the host country are going to vote and in which their entry performance video is going to be shown, and it is also meant to allocate the non-prequalified countries, when it comes down to where they will perform in either of the two Semi-finals and in which half of that specific Semi-final.
Next to this, there is the City Insignia Ceremony in which the new host country will add its especially designed insignia to the ceremonial Eurovision staff. This evening was hosted in Malmö, and presented by Farah Abadi and Pernilla Månsson Colt.

What is the City Insignia Ceremony?
The City Insignia Ceremony is an official, yet symbolic, event, during which the new host country adds its especially designed insignia to a ceremonial Eurovision staff. Before this happens the Eurovision staff is handed over ceremoniously from the previous host city, Liverpool (United Kingdom), to the new host city Malmö (Sweden).
What is The Draw?
The Draw consists of two events: One in which is decided during which Semi-final the Big Five countries (United Kingdom, France, Spain, Italy, and Germany) and the host winner (Sweden) are going to be voting and when their entry performance video will be shown. The second event is where the non-prequalified countries are going to be allocated in the Semi-finals and in which half of the specific Semi-final.
The exact running order is decided by the producers of the show. They have the task to make the shows great and exciting to watch, i.e. they can determine that two ballads do not follow after one another.
