Tonight at 19:00 CET The Draw of the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 will take place in Malmö (Sweden). The draw will ensure in which of the two Semi-finals a country will perform.
Before The Draw was known as the “Allocation Draw”.
Allocation draw
Yesterday the 5 pots of the 2024 allocation draw were announced; these pots will be used during the allocation draw in Malmö (Sweden). The Draw will be hosted by Farah Abadi and Pernilla Månsson Colt. During The Draw is decided in which of the two Semi-finals a non-prequalified country will be placed and in which half of that specific Semi-final.
Next to this, during The Draw it will become clear in which of the Semi-finals the Big Five countries and the host country will vote and when their performance videos will be shown, these countries are: United Kingdom, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, and Sweden.
Countries are divided over the pots bases on their voting patterns, which ensures a good mix in each Semi-final. Doing it this way gives the contest a sense of unpredictability and avoids countries voting for each other.
Who ensures that the pots will be divided fairly?
The people ensuring that the pots will be divided fairly are the Contest’s Executive Supervisor (Martin Österdahl) and the Chairman of the Reference Group (Bakel Walden, from the Swiss national broadcaster SSR SRG).
