On January 25th, Luxembourg’s public broadcaster RTL hosted the second edition of the Luxembourg Song Contest, the country’s national selection for Eurovision 2025. Seven acts, chosen after a thorough selection process, competed for the honor of succeeding TALI as Luxembourg’s representative at Eurovision.
Laura Thorn, already the favorite in the betting odds, claimed victory in the national final, earning her place on the Eurovision stage in Basel. She scored an impressive 184 points, topping the international juries and finishing second in the public vote. Her win came with over 50 points ahead of runner-up Zero Point Five with “Ride,” and nearly double the score of third-placed Luzac with “Je Danse.”
Get to Know Laura Thorn: Luxembourg’s New Voice for Eurovision 2025
Laura Thorn (25 years old) is an artist with a strong musical background, a deep love for teaching, and undeniable stage presence. From an early age, music has played a key role in her life. Her passion began at eight years old, especially through classical music, inspiring her to study music theory, piano, and cello.
Her dedication led her to professional training at the Institut Supérieur de Musique et de Pédagogie de Namur in Belgium, where she earned a master’s degree in music theory, pedagogy, and pop singing. Today, she shares her expertise as a teacher at the Escher Conservatory.
While she continues to focus on refining her performance skills and developing her artistic identity, Laura hasn’t ventured into songwriting just yet. She finds inspiration in legendary voices of soul and new soul, citing influences like Aretha Franklin, Christina Aguilera, and Jennifer Hudson.
A lesser-known side of Laura is her passion for musical theatre, particularly drawn to villainous roles for their expressive depth. If given the chance, she dreams of playing Ursula from The Little Mermaid—though she acknowledges that such iconic roles are typically reserved for older, more experienced performers.
Outside of music, Laura is a fitness enthusiast, believing physical conditioning is essential for breath control and vocal stamina. Her commitment to fitness proved crucial during Luxembourg’s selection show, where she tackled the challenge of singing and dancing live. This discipline remains a core part of her preparation for Eurovision in Basel.
In various interviews, Laura has shared that she sees Eurovision not just as a goal, but as a platform to grow and explore new opportunities. She points out that artists in Luxembourg have limited chances to showcase their music and gain visibility, making the Luxembourg Song Contest a valuable stage to build a loyal fanbase.
Despite her current role at the Escher Conservatory, she remains open-minded about what’s next in her musical journey:
“I always approach things spontaneously. I don’t have a specific goal or ambition right now—I just want to see where this path takes me. When an opportunity comes your way, you’ve got to follow it.”

What is “La Poupée Monte Le Son,” Luxembourg’s Eurovision 2025 Entry?
The collaboration between Laura Thorn and Parisian songwriters Julien Salvia (composer) and Ludovic-Alexandre Vidal (lyricist) was forged in Belgium. A former vocal coach of Laura’s at the Institut Supérieur de Musique et de Pédagogie de Namur recommended her to the songwriting duo, who were seeking the right voice for “La Poupée Monte Le Son.”
The song’s title is a direct nod to “Poupée de Cire, Poupée de Son,” the track that won Eurovision for France Gallrepresenting Luxembourg 60 years ago.
While “Poupée de Cire” portrays a doll controlled like a puppet—reflecting an era dominated by male influence in music and society—“La Poupée Monte Le Son” flips the narrative, rejecting the idea of being a “perfect doll” under control. It advocates for female independence, a message echoed through Laura’s Eurovision staging: featuring imagery of France Gall’s performance before Laura symbolically removes her doll costume to represent breaking free from expectations and stereotypes.

Nouveau mode d’emploi
Je n’compte plus que sur moi
C’est le signal, tu vois
D’une autre époque
Je donne de la voix
Pour déclencher chez toi
L’électrochoc
La poupée monte le son
Na na na na na na
Retiens bien la leçon
Na na na na na na
La poupée monte le son
Na na na na na na
Méfie-toi mon garçon
Na na na na na na
La poupée monte le son
Ta poupée, comme tu l’appelles,
Fait monter les décibels
Elle est l’écho d’une nouvelle
Génération
Sans chiffon ni plastique
Dans ses caractéristiques
Ta poupée mène la musique
Elle monte le…
Elle monte le…
Elle monte le son
La poupée monte le son
Na na na na na na
Retiens bien la leçon
Na na na na na na
La poupée monte le son
Na na na na na na
Méfie-toi mon garçon
Na na na na na na
La poupée monte le son
Na na na na na na
Retiens bien la leçon
Na na na na na na
Lа poupée monte le ѕon
English
If all you see in me is a perfect doll
Who smiles and then shuts up when you want her to
Forget me, I’m not your puppet
That’s the way it is, that’s the way it is
Your little game is over
If you think a man like you can manipulate me
Go back to mummy, you’d better give up
Or else, I’m the one who will dismantle you
Beware, beware,
Because I’m taking the controls
New instruction manual
I can do everything without you
It’s another setup
Another era
I make my voice heard
So, above all, don’t play
The ventriloquist
The doll turns up the sound
Na na na na na na
Remember the lesson
Na na na na na na
The doll turns up the sound
Na na na na na na
Watch out, boy
Na na na na na na
The doll turns up the…
If you thought I was fragile like porcelain
Or more malleable, like polyethylene
I’m not like that, I need oxygen
Don’t blame me, don’t blame me,
A new world is calling me
If you were intending to display me in your showcase
With your complete collection of figurines,
Sorry for you but I alone determine
Where my heart goes, my heart goes
Yes, I am pulling the strings
New instruction manual
I’m relying on myself alone now
You see, that’s the sign
Of another era
I make my voice heard
To trigger in you
The electroshock
The doll turns up the sound
Na na na na na na
Remember the lesson
Na na na na na na
The doll turns up the sound
Na na na na na na
Watch out, boy
Na na na na na na
The doll turns up the sound
Your doll, as you call her,
Turns up the decibels
She is the echo of a new generation
Without rags or plastic
In her specifications,
Your doll conducts the music
She turns up the…
She turns up the…
She turns up the sound
The doll turns up the sound
Na na na na na na
Remember the lesson
Na na na na na na
The doll turns up the sound
Na na na na na na
Watch out, boy
Na na na na na na
The doll turns up the sound
Na na na na na na
Remember the lesson
Na na na na na na
The doll turns up the sound
Luxembourg at the Eurovision Song Contest
Luxembourg made a triumphant return to Eurovision in 2024, marking 30 years since its last appearance in Millstreet 1993 and 40 years since its last victory with Corinne Hermès’ “Si La Vie Est Cadeau.”
With five wins across 38 participations, Luxembourg remains one of Eurovision’s most successful countries. A founding participant in 1956, Luxembourg only skipped the contest once, in 1959.
Among its famous representatives: Jean-Claude Pascal (1961, 1981), Nana Mouskouri (1963), France Gall (1965), Vicky Leandros (1965, 1973), Anne-Marie David (1973), Baccara (1978), Lara Fabian (1988), and Sarah Bray (1991). Interestingly, many weren’t Luxembourgish by nationality—a unique aspect of its Eurovision history.
Luxembourg has achieved a Top 10 finish 20 times, though it also placed last on three occasions (1958, 1960, 1970). The country hosted the contest four times (1962, 1966, 1973, 1984) at venues like Villa Louvigny and Grand Théâtre de Luxembourg.
Before its long hiatus, Luxembourg’s final entry was Modern Times with “Donne-Moi Une Chance” in 1993, finishing 20th with 11 points. Following internal restructuring at RTL, the country withdrew—until its long-awaited comeback in 2024, when TALI’s “Fighter” qualified for the final, finishing 13th with 103 points.
