Ukraine 2024: Ukrainian national final has a longlist!

Today (09-11-2023), the national broadcaster of Ukraine, UA:PBC, revealed that there is a longlist for the national Ukrainian final, Vidbir 2024.

Vidbir 2024

The name of the annual national final of Ukraine is “Vidbir”. Today the longlist for Vidbir 2024 was published by the Ukrainian national broadcaster, UA:PBC. Below you can find the longlist.

  • ANKA
  • Carpetman
  • Drevo
  • Julia Belei
  • Ziferblat

Well-known names

Well-known names on the longlist are: Mélovin, who represented Ukraine in the Eurovision Song Contest of 2018, with the song “Under The Ladder”. Carpetman has won the contest of 2022, as part of Kalush Orchestra, with the song “Stefania”.

The process

The process of Vidbir 2024 is the following: All longlisted artists need to go through an in-person audition, and these auditions will decide which of the artists will be the 10 acts that will compete in the Ukrainian national final, these acts will be decided on November 20th 2023. There will also be an 11th act that will be chosen by an online voting round among the acts which did not make it into the national final from the longlist, this wildcard act will be revealed on December 29th 2023.

This national final will take place in February 2024 and will be presented as a concert. A professional and a public jury will decide who is going to the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 in Malmö (Sweden).

Eurovision 2023

In the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 in Liverpool (United Kingdom)  war-stricken Ukraine was not only the host country, together with the United Kingdom, but also competed in the contest with TVORCHI and their song “Heart of Steel”. Since Ukraine won the contest of 2022 in Turin (Italy) they were immediately placed in the Grand Final of 2023, and they did not have to go through the Semi-final phase. In the contest of 2023 TVORCHI placed 6th (of 26) in the Grand Final.
