The design

The stage design will be both classic and modern; it is a stage in which digital and analogue meet each other. The stage will be able to move and it holds great new light design. It will reflect the beauty of nature, as the theme of this year’s contest is “The Sound of Beauty”.

About the design of the Italian 2022 song contest stage Francesca Montinaro says, in an interview with Ansa, the following:

Italy, with its sun its sea, art and nature, but above all to represent Italians with their unique vocation to adapt and welcome.

It all started with a competition, which I’m particularly proud of, and with the concept ‘The sun inside’, which, however, was limiting, like closing the sky in a box. I immediately thought that talking about Italian beauty was actually talking about our creativity, which is itself an artistic absolute. We are always on the move, in all fields, we are always looking for a solution that makes us rise again”. This metaphor has become a stage machine of 11 meters by 22 absolutely mobile, able to transform and especially to accommodate artists from all over Europe: 40 will start in the semifinals of May 10 and 12 at the PalaAlpitour in Turin to arrive in 25 to the final of 14. But also to give space to the three conductors, Laura Pausini, Alessandro Cattelan and Mika, with the direction signed by an exceptional tandem, Duccio Forzano and Cristian Biondani. This is a stage that, like the Italians, must be able to welcome diversity and adapt, it must be able to reposition itself as we often do, even politically”. A work, that of Montinaro, that in this moment of war is highly symbolic. Yes, but the idea was already there after the covid – he explains – these two years have made us understand that only being united can save us. The union is the future and this stage, which only puts young people on stage, wants to bring only positive signals. In this sense its meaning is even stronger at this time”. The scene, dominated by the enormous backdrop of rotating arches, is drop-shaped and in front and around (”like Italy in the Mediterranean”) is immersed in water.

In front, the small lounges where the artists stop are ”a real baroque garden with real plants that resembles those of Villa d’Este, Castel Gandolfo, Villa Lante and many other similar ones scattered in our country. As well as the large arches of water that can wrap the side walkways to the secondary park reminiscent of our wonderful fountains
