During popular Dutch TV show “Matthijs Draait Door” Dutch entrant S10 sang her Eurovision entry “De Diepte” live for the first time. This happened on March 5th 2022. This performance is fully live, the singing as well as the music, this also means that the on-stage Eurovision version will sound different, as the song contest has only live vocals and the music on tape.
The performance
During this live TV performance S10 stands in a network of red (laser?) lights while she sings her song.
In this regard, the lights that are all around S10 evoke a feeling of connection and confusion, which has been part of S10’s life for quite a while. Whether this staging is the one S10 will use in Turin is unknown.
About the song
S10’s song is called “De Diepte”, in English this would translate as “The Depth”. The song was written by the singer herself, and she describes the moral of the song as follows:
“A love letter to the hurt we all feel one day or another. The hurting is also us, it is connected to the people we are. It made us the people we are today. Hurt and joy live next to each other. Sometimes the depth (De Diepte) can also be comfortable, because it is what you know and it can feel like a blanket.”
S10 became famous for her music in the Netherlands, but also because she was featured in a documentary in which she discusses her battle with mental illness, like depression, between ages 14 and 17. She still carries the memories of that time with her, and sometimes she feels like she can relapse. Her song is not as much of a love song to a person, but to a time in her life. In the TV show she also expressed that the song can mean many things to other people, and that that is the power of music.

Eurovision Song Contest 2022
This year’s Eurovision Song Contest will take place on May 10th (Semi-final 1), 12th (Semi-final 2), and on the 14th (Grand Final) in Turin, Italy. The Netherlands will compete in the first half of the first Semi-final.
