Hall of Fame
In connection with the Melodifestivalen heat in Gothenburg, the pop group Style, consisting of artists Tommy Ekman, Christer Sandelin, and Gigi Hamilton, is inducted into the Hall of Fame. Style had their big breakthrough when they participated in Melodifestivalen 1986 with the iconic song Dover–Calais.
The official motivation reads:
“In 1986, a stylish, brooding trio took Sweden by storm as they sang about a passionate encounter on the ferry across the English Channel. Gigi, Tommy, and Christer emerged from the successful group Freestyle, and with the super ballad Dover-Calais, they brought modern pop into Mello. Naturally, Style now sails into the Melodifestivalen Hall of Fame.”
Gigi Hamilton expresses her gratitude:
“I am deeply moved and incredibly grateful that our song has been inducted into the Melodifestivalen Hall of Fame. Receiving this honor means more than I can put into words. Music is timeless, and this is not the end—just another chapter in a story we continue to write together.”
Tommy Ekman also shares his joy:
“Since childhood, I have been a huge fan of Mello—so it was amazing when Dover-Calais was selected for the competition. Since then, I have participated three times, once behind Tommy Nilsson, which also allowed me to experience the international competition. Being inducted into the Hall of Fame is an incredible honor and, above all, a great joy.”
Style will be celebrated with a special segment during Saturday’s program, and Tommy Ekman and Gigi Hamilton will be present in the arena to receive the award.
Christer Björkman, honorary chairman of the Hall of Fame committee, adds:
“’80s hairstyles, passion, and a song about the English Channel. The supergroup Style did not go unnoticed when they secured third place in Melodifestivalen 1986. Now, they take their well-deserved place in the Melodifestivalen Hall of Fame.”
Gigi Hamilton fondly recalls the Mello adventure:
“Melodifestivalen has always been more than just a competition for me. It’s a place where music becomes magic, where memories are created, and where dreams come true. When Dover-Calais was chosen to compete, and we got the chance to step onto that mighty stage, it wasn’t just a song we performed—it was the journey that brought us there. We didn’t win that night, but oh, what love we got to experience. I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey—from those who stood by our side in the early years to all who helped us create the music that still lives on today, thanks to you.”
About the Hall of Fame
Since Melodifestivalen’s inception in 1958, numerous vibrant artists and melodies have left a lasting mark on Swedish music and cultural identity. The Melodifestivalen Hall of Fame was established in 2020 to honor and highlight remarkable achievements and unforgettable Mello moments throughout the program’s long history.
The top two entries from this semi-final will advance directly to the final, while the third-placed song will have another chance in the final qualification round after the fifth heat. This year’s format introduces changes, including the immediate release of competing songs on streaming platforms the day before their respective heats, allowing fans to familiarize themselves with the entries ahead of the broadcasts.
