Spain: RTVE launches national selection for Eurovision 2017

The Spanish broadcaster has just revealed the national selection procedure through which they will select their entrant for Eurovision 2017. RTVE will use an open selection procedure mixed with some internal choices, so everyone interested in representing Spain in Kyiv will have a month to apply for the competition.

RTVE will held a national final were artists internally selected will compete to represent Spain, similar to what they did in 2014 and 2016. However, this year, they will open applications, so everyone will have the chance to compete at the Spanish final as one of the finalists will be chosen externally. The other finalists will be selected by the broadcaster among professional singers from the Spanish music industry.

By using this format, RTVE wants to give new talents and artists the opportunity to represent their homeland in the biggest European event. The broadcaster will select a total of 30 entries from all the ones submitted that will compete in an on-line voting procedure. After this, the 3 most voted songs will go through to a special sing-off where the singers will perform their song at a special show that will be live streamed where a final on-line voting will decide the winner and finalist of the Spanish national selection.

The broadcaster has also announced that the Spanish representative will be chosen during a national final, called Objetivo Eurovision, that will be held by the end of February. The overall winner will be chosen by a mix of public televote and professional jury panel.
