Spain will be at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2027. That is what César Vallejo, head of the Spanish delegation, has said, stating that Spanish public broadcaster RTVE is already working with its sights set on the next edition of the contest.
While preparing for the 2026 edition, the broadcaster opted for a closed selection process because of the tight deadlines. César Vallejo explained that this decision was shaped by the timeline, but said that the procedure will change next year.
“Because of the shorter timeframe the casting was closed, but next year we will have an open process again”

RTVE therefore hopes to bring back in 2027 an open casting process similar to the one used between 2022 and 2025, once again allowing young artists to apply to represent Spain at the European contest. The decision to opt for a closed internal selection had prompted viewer complaints to RTVE’s Audience Ombudsman. In fact, on a programme in September, María Eizaguirre, RTVE’s Director of Communication and Participation, gave details and said the broadcaster was working to open the process to the country’s young talent.
The confirmation also means Spain’s continued presence at Junior Eurovision since its return to the contest at Gliwice-Silesia 2019. It will also be a highly symbolic contest, as it will be the 25th edition. Over these years, the Spanish broadcaster has used different selection formats.

The announcement was made at the press conference held by RTVE on 28 September at its Prado del Rey studios (Madrid) to present “Cuore Bello (Te Quiero, Te Quiero)”, the song with which Lucas Paulano will represent Spain at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2026 on Saturday 24 October in Ta’ Qali (Malta).
