Serbia’s Eurovision Journey: A Look Back
Serbia boasts a respectable Eurovision history, having participated in the contest 15 times since its debut in 2007. Their most significant moment came in their first year, securing a phenomenal victory with Marija Šerifović’s moving ballad “Molitva.”
The Balkan nation has consistently delivered strong contenders, achieving four additional top 10 finishes, including a commendable third place in 2012 with Željko Joksimović’s “Nije ljubav stvar.” Most recently, Serbia impressed the world in 2022 with Konstrakta’s thought-provoking “In corpore sano,” securing an impressive 5th place finish.
Understanding Pesma za Evroviziju
Pesma za Evroviziju (translated as “Song for Eurovision”) is an annual televised music competition organized by Radio Television of Serbia (RTS). Since 2007, the show has served as the platform to select Serbia’s representative for the Eurovision Song Contest.
The format of Pesma za Evroviziju has undergone adjustments over the years, but the current structure typically features two semi-finals and a final. Semi-finals showcase a multitude of competing songs, with the top-scoring entries progressing to the final. The winner of the final then claims the coveted honor of representing Serbia on the grand stage of Eurovision.
