What happened that Montenegro is looking into a 2025 return to the contest?

The thing that happened is that Montenegro is looking into organizing a grand music festival that might get a national final set-up to choose a contestant for Eurovision. This festival, if it comes to being, will be organized by the public broadcaster of Montenegro, RTCG.

Why does RTCG, the Montenegrin public broadcaster, want to organize a musical festival?

The reason why RTCG wants to organize a national music festival, like the Sanremo Festival or Festival I Këngës, is because there is a need among the inhabitants of Montenegro to have a focus on their national music writers and artists. Nowadays there is a tendency in Montenegro to only popularize music of well-known Montenegrin or international artists, and the public broadcaster wants to change this.

What is the course of Montenegro in the Eurovision Song Contest?

Montenegro started competing in the contest in 2007 until 2009, and then entered again in 2012 until 2019. The last time they competed was in 2022. From the twelve times this country competed they reached the Grand Final two times. Their best run was in 2015 when KNEZ came in 13th in the Grand Final with the song “Adio”.
