It’s always a massive moment when the Swedish Eurovision hit machine explodes into action once again – and that’s precisely what we can look forward to this weekend with the first of the four Semi-Finals in this year’s Melodifestivalen.
Even better, SVT have today released a taster of each of the seven songs that will join battle in the city of Karlstad at 20.00 CET on Saturday. Based 100% on televoting, the top two will get a fast pass through to the Final on 10th March; the third-placed and fourth-placed acts will live to fight again in the Second Chance ‘play-off’ a week earlier; the other three acts will fall by the wayside. The eventual winner of Melodifestivalen will, of course, head to Lisbon in May in a bid to secure Sweden’s seventh ESC victory, which would bring it level with Ireland in the all-time winners’ list.
So who’s going to take Sweden by storm on Saturday and who’s going to find themselves cast adrift in the doldrums? Judge for yourselves, from these seven clips:
