Maro wins Festival da Canção and will represent Portugal at Eurovision 2022

Just a few minutes ago, the final of Festival da Canção 2022 ended, in which Maro won with the song “Saudade, saudade” and will represent Portugal at the Eurovision Song Contest.

A professional jury and the public vote were responsible for deciding which song was the ideal one to win the contest. The professional jury was divided into representatives of the five mainland Portuguese regions and the two autonomous regions (Madeira and Azores).

The grand final of Festival da Canção has been hosted by Filomena Cautela a big name in the Eurovision world, as she was one of the presenters of Eurovision 2018 in Lisbon. Alongside her was Vasco Palmeirim, a popular face in RTP programmes. Both have been presenting the final of the national final since 2019. The final of the Festival da Canção featured great guests such as Bateu Matou, Lura, Blaya, Sara Correira, B Fachada, Benjamim, Selma Uamusse and Tiago Bettencourt.

For the first time in history, three Spanish channels have broadcast the final of Festival da Canção, thanks to an agreement between RTP and RTVE, TEN TV and TVG.

Our editors Maria Alda Craveiro and Iván Trejo attended the final of Festival da Cançao live from the RTP Estudios. Live audience on the show were provided with a really close to stage location in which they were able to enjoy all performances. According to the opinion of the rest of the members of the audience, the artists that provided the best live performances were Syro, Maro and Aurea.

The Portuguese representative will perform in the second half of the first Eurovision semi-final on 10 May. Will X manage to surpass the great performance of The Black Mamba at Eurovision 2021?
