LPS win EMA 2022 and will represent Slovenia in Turin

After a thrilling final gala where 12 entries battled it out to be Slovenia’s flag bearer at Eurovision 2022, LPS won the EMA 2022.

Jury and tele-vote decided that LPS with “Disko” are the winners of EMA 2022, whose final gala took place tonight, and therefore the Slovenian representatives at Eurovision 2022 to be held next May in Turin.

The jury was composed of five camps with five people each: musical performers, music creators and producers, TV-related people (presenters, choreographers, editors, …) and a jury composed of Eurovision fans.

After the twelve performances, a ten-minute voting period was opened for Slovenians to vote for their favourite entry to win the EMA 2022.

Slovenia at Eurovision

Slovenia made its debut in 1993 with 1X Band and “Tih Deževen Dan”, one of the first to do so after the fall of the Soviet Union and the dissolution of Yugoslavia. Since then, the country has participated 26 times, missing only twice: in 1994 and 2000, both due to poor results.

Its highest position in the results table was seventh place twice: in 1995 with Darja Švajger‘s “Prisluhni Mi“; and in 2001 with Nuša Derenda and his “Energy“.

In 2020 Ana Soklič was the EMA winner with “Voda” and the country’s representative. Unfortunately,COVID-19 prevented her song from being performed on stage in Rotterdam in 2020. However, in 2021, RTVSLO decided that Ana would once again represent the country at the Eurovision Song Contest with “Amen“. Slovenia failed to qualify for the final, finishing 13th in their semi-final.

will LPS manage to win the first Eurovision Song Contest for Slovenia?
