Junior Eurovision: Úna Ní Mhistéil wins third Irish Semi-Final

TG4 has just broadcast the third semi-final of the Irish national selection for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2017. The show featured eight candidates but only Úna Ní Mhistéil with her song “Álann” went through to the final after a sing-off of against Holly Owens

These are the eight entrants that performed at today’s show:

  1. Úna Ní Mhistéil – “Álann”
  2. Cúigear Ceolmhar – “I Mochroí”
  3. Holly Owens – “Saoirse” (Runner-up)
  4. Annie Bolger – “Éire Álainn”
  5. Nutsa Bidzishvili – “An Bháisteach”
  6. Logan McConnon – “Slán Leat”
  7. Cathleen Garland – “A Ghrá Mo Chroí”
  8. Ciara Doherty – “Tá Mé Anseo”

Junior Eurovision Eire 2017 is hosted by Eoghan McDermott, while the resident judges, Fiachna Ó Braonáin, Dustin ‘The Turkey’ and Bláthnaid Treacy, are joined by a guest judge from Ireland’s Eurovision past in each show. The guest judge of the third semi-final was the Brian Kennedy, who represented the country at Eurovision 2006.

Pre-recorded shows:

As in previous editions, all shows have been filmed months ago, and they will be broadcast pre-recorded. That means the winner, who was selected by the jury panel, has been already working for months on preparations for the international song contest. The 32 entrants that will be featured on the live shows were selected through live auditions held nationwide. They competed with self-written original songs in the Irish language.

  • Second Semi-Final – October 29th Qualifier: Gwenaelle Noval – “Lig Dom Lomrú”
  • Third Semi-Final – November 5th Qualifier: Úna Ní Mhistéil – “Álann”
  • Fourth Semi-Final – November 12th
  • Final – November 19th
