Junior Eurovision: Italian national selection close to Ti Lascio una Canzone

Italy announced on 8 July 2014 that they will debut at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2014 to be held Malta. RAI Gulp, one of the children’s channels of the Italian broadcaster RAI which is a member of the European Broadcasting Union will be responsible for the selection process of their first participant.

A source close to RAI has just confirmed to ESC+Plus.com that there will be a link between “Ti Lascio una Canzone” and the Italian national selection for Junior Eurovision 2014, the kind of link hasn’t been decided yet: a kid who took part, same staff involved… ; not necessarily the winner of the contest.

“Ti Lascio una Canzone” (English: Leavin’ you a song) is an Italian musical variety show TV show (2008–present) that includes a competition between the most beloved songs in the history of Italian pop music.

Italian and international singing guests become part of “story” of the evening’s broadcast, enlarging the musical panorama covered by that particular episode. The guests stars perform without taking part in the competition, singing their greatest hits and engaging in duets with the younger singers.

The show assembles a large group of children (e.g. 35 boys and girls aged 7 through 15 for the Fall 2010 season). The young singers are selected from among the leading students of today’s most prestigious music schools. They are assigned songs as solos, duets, and trios; they sing some songs all together as an ensemble. They may also perform with the show’s guests. A 30-piece orchestra backs the performances.

There won’t be the first time a “Ti Lascio una Canzone” participant takes part at Junior Eurovision. Last year’s Sanmarinese representative Michele Perniola was the winner of the sixth edition of the contest in 2012 and this year’s Maltese representative Federica Falzon became the winner of the seventh edition in a duet with the Italian tenor Vincenzo Carni.

The Junior Eurovision 2013 winner Gaia Cauchi’s first “international gig” came in 2011 when she appeared on “Ti Lascio Una Canzone”. She took on Tina Turner’s “Proud Mary” and other songs during that edition.
