Eurovision Eurovision 2019 Italy

Italy: Sanremo Giovani starts this week

Sanremo Giovani kicks off this week with a few shows showcasing the artists ahead of the performances on Thursday and Friday evenings.

24 singers will perform live to compete for two places in the Sanremo Festival held in February.

Two artists will be selected through the vote of the musical commission led by Claudio Baglioni,  the expert jury, presided by Luca Barbarossa and viewers at home.  One artist per evening will be chosen through the vote of the Music Commission led by Claudio Baglioni (40%), an expert jury led by Barbarossa (30%) and the public (30%). Italian music critics will also assign on Critics Award.

Rai has disqualified Laura Ciriaco from competing in Sanremo Giovani,  after her entry “L’inizio” was deemed to be breaking the rules of the competition. Rai issued a statement reading:

“The Organization of the Festival – Direction of Rai1, having heard the opinion of the corporate legal office and after a thorough assessment of its technical and musical sectors, has proceeded to the exclusion of the song by Laura Ciriaco, “L’Inizio”, which has important similarities with the song “I won’t give up” by the American artist Jason Mraz, thus breaking the fundamental requirement of novelty (unpublished song) of the regulations of the event.”

In addition, we will then learn the other 22 artists that will be competing at Sanremo in February in the song contest’s 69th edition.   The jury and journalists will comment on the musical cast selected by Claudio Baglioni, and the public will be able to offer their reactions on social media of the chosen artists.  In the past weeks, there have been rumors that Eurovision veterans such as Francesco Gabbani and Il Volo are expected to be announced.
