Interview Eurovision Eurovision 2015 Romania

Voltaj: “Our song is a manifest, there are many dramatic cases in which children are involved” (Romanian finalists – Interview)

ESC+Plus has talked to Voltaj, participants of the Romanian national selection for Eurovision 2015. The band will sing “De la capat” in the final to take place tomorrow.

ESC+Plus: Hello guys! Firstly, Can you tell us about your musical evolution and important achievements?

We are one of the few pop-rock bands in Romania and from 17 years we still manage to remain on top in charts and public preferences. Over the years, we have obtained many awards such as BEST GROUP, BEST LIVE, BEST SONG, BEST ALBUM at Romanian Music Awards and Media Music Awards. In addition we won the award for “Best Romanian act” at MTV Europe Music Awards in 2005.

E+: Why did you decide to take part in the Romanian selection for Eurovision 2015?

When we wrote and released the song with the campaign “All over again” we never thought to participate in Eurovision Song Contest. However, we realized that this contest can help us to make known internationally the fact that so many children are left home alone, while their parents are working abroad to give them the chance to a decent life.

E+: What it would mean for you to represent Romania in Vienna?

“All over again” is more than a song, it’s a manifest. We believe that if we manage to win the contest in Romania, we’ll make all Europe aware about it. There are many dramatic cases in which children are involved. They live a trauma due to the lack of affection, although they receive gifts and packages from their parents. The people must know that Romanians are not lazy or thieves and the biggest majority are hard-working and honest, making enormous sacrifices. Therefore, they must be respected and not discriminated because of this.

E+: Can you tell us about your song “De la capat” and the story behind the lyrics? How was the composition procedure?

We wrote this song with the boys from Deepside Deejays. The lyrics were inspired from the love to our own children and thinking about them.

E+: Have your started to prepare your stage performance? Can you reveal us anything about it?

We like to go step by step. At the moment we have in mind a plan for the show on Romania’s Eurovision Final, on the 8th of March, in Craiova. We also think that we found a couple of great ideas to make the people in front of us and the ones sitting in form of the TV to fully understand our message and make them to take part in our campaign “All over again”.

E+: What are your main strengths so as to get the jury and people support to reach Eurovision?

We count on our fan’s support and their love and regarding the jury, we consider that our song has all required to win.

E+: What can this competition contribute to your musical careers?

We don’t think that our participation to Eurovision will have a big impact in our career, we have 17 years of concerts, singles and albums behind us, but for the campaign it will mean a lot. However it will be definitely another brick on the wall of our career.

E+: Do you have any favourite song among the other Romanian finalists?

There are some very good songs and voices too. Competition is strong, but as we do for so many years, we prepare very carefully and intensively each appearance and stage production of our show and we are ready to compete.

E+: Do you usually watch Eurovision? Do you have any favourite song in the history of the contest?

We like this contest and we followed every year the final. Each of us has his own favourite, but this will keep it between us.

E+: What is your favourite music style? Do you have any favourite singer?

We love rock and all listen with pleasure to  Metallica, Rammstein, Queen and many other bands.

E+: Besides Eurovision, what are your plans for this year?

We are just about to release a new single this summer, we are thinking about a show completely different and special comparing the previous ones. We also continue being involved in the campaign “All over again” together with  World Vision Romania and Habitat for Humanity Romania Associations .

E+: Finally, would you like to send a message for our readers?

Our tradition message is: Live your life as you would have 20 years old! But we have something else to say: Don’t ever be afraid to start ALL OVER AGAIN!
