Interview Eurovision Eurovision 2015 Germany

Steffen Brückner (Mrs. Greenbird): “Our music is mostly acoustic with strong influences of country music but it’s mainly pop music” (German finalists – Interview)

ESC+Plus has talked to Steffen Brückner (Mrs. Greenbird), finalists of the German selection for Eurovision 2015 “Unser Song für Österreich”. The band will sing “Shine Shine Shine” and “Take My Hand” in the final to take place today.

ESC+Plus: Hi Steffen! First of all congratulations on having been selected to compete at Unser Song für Österreich 2015.

Thank you!

E+: Can you tell us a bit about you, your musical evolution and important achievements?

Yes. I’m the 50% percent of the band Mrs. Greenbird with Sarah Nücken from Germany. “We play country pop songs, a style of music we define as a shelter. Our music is mostly acoustic with strong influences of country music but it’s mainly pop music.”

E+: Why did you decide to take part in the German selection this year?

We actually wanted to be in the German selection already two years ago but we missed deadline. So we didn’t make it. Last year we didn’t make it because we were working in the recording of our second album.

This year we talked about it with our record company and we applied for the German final. We have been selected and we can be there.

E+: What it would mean for you to represent Germany in Vienna?

It would mean a lot. That would mean that German audience picks us to represent Germany in Vienna and it would be a great honour. Two million people will be watching the show and would vote for us so, we would do our very best.

E+: Can you tell us about Shine Shine Shine und Take My Hand and the stories behind the lyrics?

“Shine Shine Shine” is the song about the courage of being yourself and showing the world your identity and what you are and not been afraid of doing something wrong. Just do the best that you can to be a great person and make the world a little better so, everybody can see how to shine in the world. That is  the message behind “Shine Shine Shine”.

“Take my hand” is not the opposite. It’s a song about sticking together, stay there for each other and help each other. When a person is not able to help him-herself and knows where to go and what to do, the best is that somebody is always looking after you.

E+: Can you give us any clue about your stage performances?

Our performance will be like our shows live on stage. We are a live band and we always do that. We are going to have a band with us, the guys we usually tour with.

We will start a German tour right after the German final for Eurovision.

E+: What can this competition contribute to your musical career?

We always love to play outside of Germany so, it can help us a lot because we always dreamed play outside of Germany, touring in Europe and play songs for Europe. If we make Eurovision, it would help us a lot with the promotion and we would like to play a lot for the people in Europe, have great shows and parties in concerts with them. That would be amazing.

E+: Do you usually watch Eurovision? Do you have any favourite song in the history of the contest?

Yeah, of course we watch Eurovision. We always try to meet with friends and make a party, voting, everybody picks their favourite.

We really liked “The Common Linnets” from The Netherlands last year. I think it is also because it’s close to what we do musically. We watched the show and we were really happy that they came second.

E+: Finally, would you like to send a message for our readers?

Thank you very much for your time and all the best. I hope to see you soon in somewhere and feel you like the show and “Shine Shine Shine”, we will be happy to bring you a great time.
