ESC+Plus has talked to Sophia Nohr, finalist of this year’s Danish national selection for Eurovision. Sophia will perform “Blue Horizon” in the DMGP final set on February 13.
ESC+Plus: Hello! First of all, thank you for your time and congratulations on having been selected to take part in Danish national selection for Eurovision.
Can you tell us about you, your musical career and important achievements?
I just turned 26 years old and live in Copenhagen alone with my two children, Alma 2 and Nola 6. Besides writing and performing my music, I have a bachelor’s degree in social work, and currently I am taking my Masters degree in social interventions study at the University. I was born in a small town and grew up in different places. My mother and I were alone, and we had to move around a lot, because it was hard to make a Living while my mother was struggling to get a job. She is an actress and have followed that dream, but she stopped acting when I was born, because she wanted me to have her full attention as a mother. I wished she had followed her Dream though, still when I was there to watch her doing that. Instead, I know now for sure that my own two girls should witness how I follow through with the things that make me happy.
I participated in the Danish version of X factor 2015 and since then, I have been on Tour with my own songs and have played my music on some amazing stages throughout the country. I just finished on making my debut single and music video “welcome to the list” which is a song that contents a lot of emotions and determination – and it is a little edgy, in its own way. It is 100% Me and I don’t Think that there is anything out there yet with that sound and expression.
E+: What impelled you to take part in “DMGP 2016”?
It has always been my childhood dream. I didn’t have the childhood that one dream about, but I have always dreamed of making a better life for me and my family.
E+: How did you feel when you knew you had qualified for the final? Did you expect it?
I was overwhelmed by this opportunity, and nothing can compare to that feeling
E+: What it would mean for you to represent Denmark?
It would mean the world to me if I was selected to represent Denmark. It would be a great honour, and it shows that no matter where you come from in the past, or no matter what you have been through, nothing is ever impossible.
E+: Can you tell us about your song? What is the story behind the lyrics?
Blue horizon is actually about that. To follow through with the things that are important to you, the things or the people in your life that makes you comfortable and happy. Blue horizon is like a sanctuary for me, it is the art and the music I seek, no matter what obstacles may be in my way. When I was a child I run in the ‘wild’ forest of Denmark, I found peace and music in my walks. It was there where my dreams were born.
E+: Why do you think your song has to be selected for Stockholm? What are you strengths to reach the top in the competition?
The song is unique and is actually really catchy at the same time. The strengths are definitely how the song stands out, and is seductive and real. I connect with my lyrics and I think that is important for a song. People will hopefully connect with the song as much as I do.
E+: Have you started to prepare your stage performance for “DMGP 2016”?
Yes, I have it is going to be very like the Scandinavian Bohemia style, simple but very beautiful. I am going to be performing with my two girlfriends, Clara and Marianne. Clara and I know each other from way back and she might even be a bigger Eurovision fan that myself. We wrote songs for the DMGP when we were kids.
E+: Do you usually watch Eurovision? What are your favorite songs in the history of the competition?
Yes I do, I am a Big fan – my favourites are Loreen ‘euphoria’ and of cause Emmelie de Forest ‘Only teardrops’ – I kinda like Lena ‘satellite’ as well.
E+: If you could choose a Eurovision former participant to sing along with, who would it be?
I Think I would be honored to sing with Anouk or Loreen, because they are very unique and it really appeals to me.
E+: Besides Eurovision, what are your plans for this year?
Like I mentioned earlier, I am going to release my own single and music video ‘welcome to the list’ just before the competition. So I hope People Will like it and follow me and my journey on making music that I love and live for.

I like her song.One of the best songs in Dansk this year.
But i really dunno if she will win the Melodi Grand Prix & represent Denmark in Stockholm’s Vision.
Most maybe she wouldn’t qualify to the SuperFinal of the 3 in Dansk (if the Danes hadn’t abolish the S.F. last year)
P.S. About her wearing a hat.Oh just plaese.Since last year i see too many singers wearing a hat &by now it has become rather annoying & cliche phenomenon.
Ok it was the Common Linnets that made it popular trendy brand in 2014 but enough is enough.
Denmark’s EuroVision in 2014 was beautiful.The last Euro Contest from its kind.
Since last year & especially from this one,EuroVision will never be the same as it has lost something that will NEVER re-gain back.
