Interview Eurovision Eurovision 2015 Hungary

Saci & Böbe Szécsi: “We feel like we are ready to show our real faces on stage” (Hungarian participants – Interview)

Esc+Plus has talked with Saci & Böbe Szécsi, one of the lucky chosen acts to compete at the Hungarian national selection for Eurovision 2015. These sisters will sing “Our Time” at the Hungarian “A Dal”.

ESC+Plus: Hi girls! Firstly we would like to know more about you. Can you tell us about you, musical evolution and important achievements?

We are two 18-year-old singer-songwriters from Budapest. We started singing when we were 13 and we had taken part in many smaller singing competitions. At the age of 16 we entered a talent show, The Voice. Thanks to the show we got to know a lot of important people in the industry and have had more opportunities to write and record for various projects, including performing with the house band Muzikfabrik. We find it extremely important to write our own songs, because we truly see making music as a form of self-expression rather than a business.

E+: This is your second time you take part in “A Dal”. Why did you decide to enter the competition again?

Last year we unfortunately got eliminated in the first live show so we couldn’t get as far as we had wanted to. We were disappointed at first, but then decided to learn from it instead. We are obsessed with the music of the 50s/60s and that’s why “Born to Fly” was written in the realm of that style; however we have realised we prefer to work in different genres. This year we wanted to do something that’s more up to date and more relatable to our generation. What gives us confidence is that we have made it into the top 30 for the second time in a row with one of our own compositions. It’s nice to have that feedback that we are good at what we’re doing. We decided enter the competition again because we wanted to prove that our place is here in the industry and we can achieve big things with our music.

E+: How do you face this new Eurovision attempt?

We are very focused and excited about the opportunity to share our music with a wider audience.

E+: How are preparing your “A Dal” performance? Can you reveal us anything about it?

Preparations this year has been different, because we have a better idea of what to expect and therefore what areas of our performance we need to work on. We have been debating a lot of ideas for the visual aspect of the show, as we would like it to be an all-around authentic experience.

It’s gonna be cool but that’s the only thing I can tell by now 😉

E+: Your song is called “Our Time”. How was the composition procedure? Can you tell us about the song and the story behind the lyrics?

The song was written by us. The musical producer is Fodor Máriusz and the master was done by Gábor Deutsch. The song has several meanings. For us it is about that we feel like we are ready to show our real faces on stage since we have a lot more experience and we feel like it is our time now to do something noticeable. But on the other hand the message is to those people who feel defeated sometimes by the bad critics we all receive as musicians. We live in a very mean world where it is really hard to stay confident all the time. You constantly have to believe in yourself and in what you do cause otherwise they will eat you up. So “Don’t get burnt by the words you heard” as the lyrics says 🙂

E+: What can this competition contribute to your musical career?

It’s a good opportunity cause we can perform our brand new song on live tv so it can reach a much wider audience than it normally would.

E+: What are you main strengths so as to get the support of juries and televote to reach Eurovision?

We are young, we are twins, we write our own songs and we have our message.

E+: Do you usually watch Eurovision? Do you have any favourite song in the history of the competition?

Our favorite songs are Lordi’s “Hard rock hallelujah” and Loreen’s “Euphoria” but we also liked “Satellite” from Lena.

E+: Finally, would you like to send a message for our readers?
