ESC+Plus has talked to Rodica Aculova, finalist of the Romanian national selection for Eurovision 2015 “Selectia Nationala”. Rodica will sing “My Light” in the final set on March 8.
ESC+Plus: Hello! Firstly congratulations on having been selected to compete at Selectia Nationala 2015. Can you tell us about you, your musical evolution and important achievements?
Thank you! I played cello since childhood, but my dream was to sing, I joined the Musical Academy and my dream became true. I found my happiness in concerts and tours with various groups of musicians and my life went around music. Every performance is important to me because music is my life.
E+: Why did you decide to take part in the Romanian selection for Eurovision 2015?
The song, “My Light”, is beautiful, crafty composed by my husband Ivan Akulov with lyrics written by our friend Lidia Scarlat. I wanted to bring this song to a larger audience and I won’t be shy about this: Eurovision is a huge dream for me!
E+: How was the composition procedure of your song “My Light”?
Moldova’s last year selection,the song “Wild Soul” was also composed by my husband on Lidia’s lyrics. We’ve been to Copenhagen together as part of the Moldovan delegation and I understood that I want to work with these great musicians and this year it happened!
E+: What it would mean for you to represent Romania in Vienna?
It would be an incredible honour! Romania is a country full of really great talents, I am thankful to my fate and karma for letting me be a part of this world.
E+: Have your started to prepare your stage performance? Can you reveal us anything about it?
It will be delicate, magical and hopefully unforgettable. It will mainly be a very intimate moment between me and the music.
E+: What are your main strengths so as to get the jury and people support to reach Eurovision?
I will sing with all my heart and soul!
E+: What can this competition contribute to your musical career?
Oh, this is very exciting for me! We shall see 🙂 But first of all, an amazing experience.
E+: Do you have any favourite song among the other Romanian finalists?
Oh, I remember the Tornero craziness 🙂 I truly admire all Romanian ESC entries so far.
E+: Do you usually watch Eurovision? Do you have any favorite song in the history of the contest?
I always watched Eurovision, even before Moldova started participating. I have a lot of favourite songs, “Gravity” from Zlata Ognievich, Fight from Natalia Barbu, Apricot Stone from Eva Rivas, to name a few.
E+: What is your favourite music style? Do you have any favorite singer?
I try listening to as many styles as I can, besides the cartoon music my son listens to haha. My favourite female artist is Lara Fabian.

E+: Besides Eurovision, what are your plans for this year?
I want to dive into music fully, record new tracks and even duets with over talented vocalists or…maybe a second child? 🙂
