ESC+Plus has had the chance to talk to the Georgian representative for Eurovision 2015. This young singer and composer will perform “Warrior” in the first semi-final set on May 19.

Check what she has told us!

Hello Nina! First of all thank you so much for giving us this interview as Georgian representative for Eurovision 2015 and congratulations on winning the national final!

ESC+Plus: What were your first feelings when you were named the winner of the Georgian selection getting the right to represent your country in Vienna? What does representing Georgia at Eurovision mean for you?

Of course it’s amazing when you are the winner and moreover when it’s all about your original song. Eurovision is a wonderful project with its format and quality and I’m really happy to be part of it. For me as an artist and composer it’s very interesting to show my work and music to Europe.

E+: How did you decide to enter the Georgian competition?

I received lot of messages and requests from my fans aiming me to take part in the national selection for Eurovision. I don’t usually like contests and competitions when it’s about music but Eurovision is a great chance to introduce yourself to Europe, that’s why I decided to participate in the national selection.

E+: Can you tell us about your song and the story behind the lyrics? How was the composition procedure?

Georgia has very interesting history and women are a very important figure of our past.
I think every country expresses its attitude in Eurovision. Georgia has been dealing with a lot of troubles in the past and Georgian women were forced to protect everything they loved and cared. It made them very strong and specific. I will try to introduce the story of a Georgian woman who is warrior behind her delicate nature.

As for the song: I created the track in a very short time because I was not going to participate in contest. I wrote the song in 5 hours, I also arranged it and wrote the lyrics.

E+: As you may know, another song called “Warrior” will be competing at this year’s Eurovision, it will be sung by Amber from Malta. Have you listened to her song? What do you think about the fact that two warriors will be competing on the same stage?

The fact that there are two “Warrior” in the contest does not make any sense for me. Some people say that you should not judge a book by its title and it’s so true.

E+: Two big names of the Eurovision panorama will help you to get your song ready for the contest. What kind of arrangements would you like to listen to in the final version?

I am waiting to hear the very best…

E+: What are your plans to prepare your Eurovision performance? Will you show us an epic performance according to the song’s power?

We are working on it now.

E+: Can you tell us about your musical career? What are the most important achievements you have reached until the date?

In this field my biography is too long. I was a few months old when I started singing, I was 6 y/o when I started playing at the music school “Fortepiano” and I was learning to play the piano for 7 years. After that, I have worked with different bands and musicians, I has been also studying with the best vocal coaches and choreographers. I won the Georgian Idol and my debut album is the best-selling in my country and, to record my second album, I created my own studio. Today, I’m studying at the national conservatory in the music technology faculty and I am also working as a vocal coach at a music school, working in my second album, etc…

E+: You were the winner of the Georgian Idol back in 2013. How do you remember this experience?

I wanted to made something different and interesting for the Georgian audience. I was doing commercial music for some time and Idol was a good chance to get listeners and unexpectedly it really worked because I got a lot of fans and my album was the Georgia’s best seller last year.

E+: Your real name is Nina Sulaberidze. Why did you decide to change your surname for the nickname “Sublatti”?

I think Sublatti is my last name and not nickname because I have this nickname from childhood.

E+: Can you send a message for our readers and fans of Eurovision?

I would like to thank each and every person who likes my song and who likes me as an artist. It’s very important for me and it gives me huge power.

Thank you very much, good luck and see you in Vienna!
