Moira Delia: “My JESC costumes will be smart with a casual twist” (Exclusive Interview)

ESC+Plus has had the chance to talk with the host of this year’s Junior Eurovision just a few weeks before the contest! Check what she has told us below.

ESC+Plus: Hello Moira! First of all, thanks for giving us this amazing interview where we will know more about the host of Junior Eurovision 2014!

You were chosen by PBS to host Junior Eurovision; do you know how the decision was taken? What was the first idea which crossed your mind when they told you such an important proposal?

Being chosen to be the only host for the first ever Junior Eurovision in Malta was a big surprise to me!

I wouldn’t know how they came to such a decision but since I had presented the Malta Song for Europe only a few months before (for the second time) and I guess they liked my work, than they decided I should do it! I am, to say the least, ecstatic!

E+: Did you accept at the time they proposed you to be the host? Did you have some time to communicate the answer?

Didn’t take much time to decide to be honest and gave my answer soon after I was asked.

E+: What did your family told you when you announced them you are going to host Junior Eurovision?

Well I only communicated with my family about this (when its work that is what I normally do) and they immediately told me to go for it! My sister was so happy and my parents were over the moon, my son and partner were delighted!

E+: What does hosting the first Eurovision contest ever in Malta mean for you?

Hosting the first ever Eurovision in Malta is the best honour a presenter could get. Being trusted to present the biggest show ever being held in Malta means that you are trusted with all the hosting responsibilities during the whole show and I know I am all ready for that! I love my work 🙂

E+: Had you watched Junior Eurovision before? When did you start watching the competition?

I always followed Eurovision, its big in Malta and we love all the hype and enthusiasm! I was involved in reading the points twice before so yes I must admit I am a big fan! I have also followed the Junior Eurovision BUT unfortunately I have never watched it live yet so that is next on my bucket list :-))

E+: How would you describe yourself as host? How a Junior Eurovision host should be so as to attract the youngest audience?

As a host I would describe myself as ‘you get what you see’ I have the same character both on and off stage. I like to be myself and since I get good local response on the way I present myself I like to keep it that way.

Young people/ audience are fun and its very simple just join in and enjoy the show!

E+: Do you think hosting Junior Eurovision will show Malta can do a great show as bigger countries do?

Yes I really think that Europe is in for a big surprise as we are all ready to host one of the biggest shows ever!

E+: The Maltese national selection for Eurovision 2015 will take place the following week in the same venue, has PBS propose you to host that event?

The national selection will be held a week after in the same arena and same set up but no I wont be presenting it again. I think it is only fair for other local presenters to have their go!

E+: In the case Malta wins the senior Eurovision, would you accept being the host? Do you think Malta could bring a great show to the European audience?

My dream was to present the actual Eurovision in Malta however I’m very honoured to be doing the Junior! If Malta had to win the Eurovision and I would be asked to do that too? Of course I would say yes!! It would be the cherry on the cake!

Malta is capable of handling big shows and I have no doubt that Malta could handle the Eurovision….any time we are ready!

E+: What are the biggest achievements you have reached until the date? Will hosting Junior Eurovision 2014 be the greatest one?

Since as a profession I am a TV producer and presenter I have had past international experiences however I’ll be honest, never as big as the Eurovision! Since I am a big animal lover I currently produce and present a programme on our national station called Animal Diaries. Another programme I present is Gourmet Today which is about food and eating well….I love my food!

E+: You already have a long career behind you but, what is the funniest anecdote you have ever had during a TV show?

The funniest thing that happened to me on Tv/ stage was actually tripping in my dress and tearing it whilst going up for an award some years back. My dress was held by my co presenter and producer for me to be able to give a speech! The speech, obviously, was cut very short!

E+: What do you do just before going on stage? Do you carry any lucky charm during your TV programs?

I do nothing before going on stage, I like to be left alone before going on stage to be able to concentrate! I would want my team (make up artist, hairdresser and designer) close to me, they know me the best and know how to keep me calm and relaxed! On TV I normally carry a necklace which my son gave me for my birthday and a special ring!

E+: How are you preparing your Junior Eurovision adventure? Have you already visited the venue?

So far I haven’t visited the venue but I regularly meet up with one of the organisers to rehearse my role and I must say its going very well!

E+: Have you thought about the costumes you will be wearing during the show? What kind of style, casual or smart?

Charles&Ron are my designers, they have designed my dresses since day 1 of my career and I leave it up to them! They know my style best! It will be smart with a casual twist!

E+: What do you think about the contest’s logo and motto #together?

I consider myself as one of the most colourful persons in Malta and I just love being associated with the most colourful logos ever created! And Yes #together couldn’t have been more appropriate 🙂

E+: What do you expect from your Junior Eurovision experience?

A few months ago when I hosted the local selection I was going through a rough time with my personal life (my father was receiving treatment) and thanks to the rehearsals and show itself I managed to cope and enjoy the moment. That is what I will be doing this year enjoying each and every moment of the Junior Eurovision.

E+: Can you send a message for our readers and Junior Eurovision fans?

To all the Eurovision fans and viewers id say – Live the Moment, together we can do it!

Last but not least – Love and respect all animals!

E+: Thank you very much for your time and see you in Malta!

Moira Delia was selected by TVM to host the first Eurovision event held in Malta, she is a very big fan of Eurovision and she has already hosted Maltese selections for Eurovision before.
