Interview Eurovision Eurovision 2015 Georgia

Misha Sulukhia: “My song is about a man who must find the positive things in life” (Georgian finalist – Interview)

ESC+Plus has talked with Misha Sulukhia, one of the finalists of the Georgian national final set on January 14. Misha will compete with the song “One & Only”.

ESC+Plus: Hello Misha! Congratulations on having qualified for the Georgian national final. Firstly, we would like to know more about you. Can you tell us about you and your musical career?

Thanks for your willingness to speak with me. I was born in Georgia, capital Tbilisi. In childhood I was studying to play the violin. Afterwards, I was flute player, now I am mostly working on my vocal, in classic and pop genres.

I can say that I am not merely a singer, I am a musician. I am very close to music and can’t imagine a day without it. For me music is so important that it doesn’t have borders, frames.

In Georgia I was also working in various musicals and spectacles. My mother is actress in musical theatre. That’s why I love this genre from my childhood and afterwards, I have participated in several big projects.

E+: You participated in “Star Academy” back in 2008 and you were finalist. How did you experience this contest?

“Star Academy” was one prestigious TV project in Georgia were I took part. During 3 months we were living along with TV cameras and microphones. I became finalist of this project and I was participating till the end of the project. This experience was very valuable, but now I have different view on music, different tastes than before.

E+: Talking about Eurovision, why did you decide entering the Georgian national selection?

I decided to participate in the Eurovision selection tour because people around me like the songs I write and they always instigate me to realize them. I think Eurovision is one of the biggest stages where musicians can introduce themselves.

E+: What it would mean for you to represent Georgia at Eurovision?

It is a huge responsibility to represent Georgia at Eurovision, both for me and my country. In Georgia huge attention is paid to singers who are sent abroad, but I think that I have potential to represent myself successfully.

I am waiting for final results and I will be very happy to represent my country at Eurovision this year.

E+: Your song is called “One & Only”. How was the composition procedure? Can you tell us about the song and the story behind the lyrics?

I have composed and made the arrangements of my song called “One & only”. This song was completely made at my home. The author of the text is the young and talented girl Teeo who is also my friend.

“One & only” tells about a man with many obstacles in his life, but he is constantly ready to overcome difficulties. He must find the positive things in life, see the rainbow in the sky when it’s raining.

So my message according to the song is… “feel the present of your life”. I think it is a very important phrase. Every man must find out the moments and elements in his life.

E+: What do you expect from your participation at Georgian final?

I am expecting to see a well-deserved representative. If I am not the winner I won’t be offended and I will try harder for the next year to achieve my goals. If I represent my country, then I will actively start preparations to represent my country on ESC very well.

E+: If you win the Georgian national final, would you sing in English at Eurovision?

My song is in English, because due to its format other language wouldn’t fit it. I think it is most beautifully sing in English. As a result, we chose that language.

E+: What do you think about the other Georgian finalists?

My competitor song belongs to Eter Beriashvili, because stylistically our songs resemble to each other. Other songs are different from this style.

E+: Do you usually watch Eurovision? Do you have any favourite song in the history of the competition?

I am a supporter and spectator of the Eurovision contest and I often like the songs from different countries. For example, in 2014, The Netherlands was my favorite, in 2007 – Marija Serifovic. In 2012 – Loreen (Sweden). From Georgia, my favorite singer was Sopho Nizharadze in 2010.

E+: Besides Eurovision, do you have other plans for this new year?

I always have plans. People often offer me to participate in TV shows and projects, but I refuse to do it. PR and popularity is not my aim. More often I am pleased to be alone with music.
