ESC+Plus has talked to Mimi Werner, semifinalist of this year’s Swedish national selection for Eurovision. Mimi will perform “Ain’t No Good” in the first Melodifestivalen semi-final set on February 6.

ESC+Plus: Hello! First of all, thank you so much for your time and congratulations on having been selected to take part in the Swedish national selection for Eurovision 2016!

E+: Can you tell us about you, your musical career and important achievements?

I’m Mimi Werner, an artist and a songwriter who’s been performing in Sweden since I was 5 years old and who loves country music! This year I’m going to participate in Melodifestivalen 2016 with my song ”Ain’t No Good” that I wrote when I went to Nashville, Tennessee last year. We also recorded my debut EP i Nashville. I just released my debut single “Forever again”.

E+: What impelled you to take part in “Melodifestivalen 2016”?

The song! When I were in Nashville and wrote the song together with Goran Werner, Marcus Svedin and Jason Saenz, the moment the song was all written down on paper we just felt that its gonna be perfect for the competition! So we recorded it, and took a chance and here we are!

E+: How did you feel when you knew you had qualified for the semifinal? Did you expect it?

I was so truly happy! It was not expected.

E+: What it would mean for you to represent Sweden?

If I win and be the one who’s representing Sweden, it would be a huge honor for me to represent my country. Especially this year when we will be located here, in Stockholm!!

E+: Can you tell us about your song? What is the story behind the lyrics?

The song is a strong up tempo, pop song with country vibes. The lyrics are based on a warm and a true feeling, it’s all about the love and hate you can feel, at the same time, for that one special person.

E+: Why do you think your song has to be selected for Melodifestivalen? What are you strengths to reach the top in the competition?

Cause it’s warm, happy and have that cool attitude! My strength to reach the top is my song and also that I’m a debutant!

E+: Have you started to prepare your stage performance for “Melodifestivalen 2016”?

Yes, it’s all done and I’m so excited to show you all what we’ve been preparing for so long…!! 🙂

E+: Do you usually watch Eurovision? What are your favorite songs in the history of the competition?

I always watch Eurovision and my favorite song right now is of course our hero Måns Zelmelöv’s song ”Heroes”

E+: If you could choose a Eurovision former participant to sing along with, who would it be?

Måns!!

E+: Besides Eurovision, what are your plans for this year?

First of all I’m gonna do my best in Melodifestivalen, and then I’m gonna release my debut EP, I’m so excited about that! And then I’ll be out on the road touring all summer!!

E+: Finally, can you send a message for our readers and Eurovision fans?

First of all thank you so much for the great support !! And I hope that you’re watching february 6th!! I hope that you gonna love the song as much as I do!

E+: Thank you so much and good luck!
