ESC+Plus has talked to Mick Pedaja, semifinalist of the Estonian national selection for Eurovision, “Eesti Laul 2016”. The singer will sing “Seis” (Stop) in the first semifinal set on February 13.
ESC+Plus: Hello! First of all, thank you so much for your time and congratulations on having been selected to take part in the Estonian national selection for Eurovision 2016!
Can you tell us about you, your musical career and important achievements?
I’m making music to get all emotions out of myself putting them in the music. I wouldn`t specify the genre but it reminds details of ambient, nature sounds, atmospheric, instrumental and something for the soul.
E+: What impelled you to take part in “Eesti Laul 2016”?
It’s a pleasure to be at the contest. I have been once in Eesti Laul before with Malcolm Lincoln & Manpower 4 where I sang back vocals. Eesti Laul wasn`t a special purpose itself. I just got inspiration from an Estonian poet (Doris Kareva) and I wrote the song over two years with lyrics. Later, I thought why not to send it to the contest. I didn’t wait for anything. It was a big surprise and a gift for me.
E+: How did you feel when you knew you had qualified for the semi-final?
I was very happy.
E+: What it would mean for you to represent Estonia? Can you tell us about your song “Seis (Stop)”? What is the story behind the lyrics?
It would be pleasure and honour.
E+: Can you tell us about your song “Seis (Stop)”? What is the story behind the lyrics?
“Seis” talks about feelings and fears. Every human has in some point of its life those questions and thoughts “Where I am?” “Who I am?” on the spiritual life road. Then, it’s good to take time off and think about those question. That’s part of life. That song is inspired by nature and people around us.
E+: Why do you think your song has to be selected for Stockholm?
My song sounds differently. In the middle of the noise, which obviously will be at Stockholm, it would be nice to hear something easier and melodically.
E+: How are you preparing your performance for “Eesti Laul”?
This is a secret now, but beautiful art performance.
E+: Do you usually watch Eurovision? What are your favorite songs in the history of the competition?
I don`t usually watch it, but one good song I really liked was Lena’s “Satellite”.
E+: If you could choose a Eurovision former participant to sing along with, who would it be?
Maybe Lena.
E+: Besides Eurovision, what are your plans for this year?
I want to do lot of music and we will see what’s going to happen. I believe that if you do something with heart then world is going to open herself and can show very magical things.
