Interview Eurovision Eurovision 2015 Iceland

Friðrik Dór: “My song is an easy-going ballad with a kind of lazy beat” (Icelandic finalist – Interview)

ESC+Plus has talked to Friðrik Dór, finalist of the Icelandic selection for Eurovision 2015 “Söngvakeppnin”. Friðrik will sing “Í Síðasta Skipti” in the final to take place tomorrow.

ESC+Plus: Hello! First of all congratulations on having qualified for the final of “Söngvakeppnin 2015”.

Thank you so much!

E+: What did you feel when you were named finalist?

I felt a huge relieve followed with an adrenalin rush.

E+: Can you tell us about you, your musical evolution and important achievements?

I am 26 years old and I released my first single in late 2009. I released my first album in 2010 and my second one in 2012. I started out making R&B music but I have evolved into making more electro sounding pop music, never letting go of the R&B influence completely though.

E+: Why did you decide to take part in Söngvakeppnin 2015?

I have been offered to perform songs before, but this time I felt the song and the timing was right.

E+: What it would mean for you to represent Iceland in Vienna?

First and foremost I would be honoured.

E+: Your song is called “Í Síðasta Skipti”. How do you describe to the song and the story behind the lyrics? How was the composition procedure?

The song is an easy-going ballad with a kind of lazy beat to it. The lyrics are about heartbreak and reminiscing about the past and what could have been. The composition process was in the hands of Stop Wait Go, an Icelandic team of producers.

E+: Would you like to change anything from your stage performance?

I think I will change some minor details. That is still to be decided though.

E+: What are your main strengths to as to get the people support to win the contest?

I hope my song is my main strength. Also I have always had a large group of really loyal fans and hopefully they will spread the joy so more people will join that group.

E+: If you won the Icelandic national selection, would you sing in Icelandic or English in Vienna?

I would sing in English, just like I will do in the final night of the Icelandic national selection.

E+: What can this competition contribute to your musical career?

Most of all I think I will gain a lot of experience from it. Everything else would be a bonus.

E+: Do you have any favourite song among the other “Söngvakeppnin” participants?

I can’t say that I do. I think there are many really good songs in the competition this year and almost all of them have been stuck on my head at some point in the past three weeks.

E+: Besides Eurovision, what are your other plans for this year?

I have tons of material waiting to be released, so that is my main priority.

E+: Finally, would you like to send a message for our readers?

I hope I see you in Vienna!
