Domenique: “My entry is strong, powerful and everyone can relate to it” (Maltese semifinalist – Interview)

ESC+Plus has talked to Domenique Azzopardi, semifinalist of this year’s Maltese national selection for Eurovision. The singer will perform “Empty Hearted” in the semi-final set on January 22.

ESC+Plus Hello! First of all, thank you so much for your time and congratulations on having been selected to take part in the Maltese national selection for Eurovision 2016!

E+: Can you tell us about you, your musical career and important achievements?

My career started back when I was 4 years old .. I have achieved many experiences abroad and also in Malta. My important achievement was ‘The Summer Hit Song Contest 2014’ amongst others.

E+: What impelled you to take part in “Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2016”?

I believe that the ‘Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2016’ is an important stepping stone for those artists that wants to be recognized and well-known. It’s a great experience in order to mature even more and evolve.

E+: How did you feel when you knew you had qualified for the semi-final? Did you expect it?

I felt really pleased and happy. I always believed in my entry but it was a surprise overall.

E+: What it would mean for you to represent Malta?

It would mean everything to me.

E+: Can you tell us about your song? What is the story behind the lyrics?

My song was written by the talented Swedish twins Ylva and Linda Persson. It is telling the story about a person whom unfortunately lost the love of her life which left her really empty. Although she is empty from the inside, she is stronger because she learnt and matured even more.

E+: Why do you think your song has to be selected for Stockholm? What are you strengths to reach the top in the competition?

I believe my entry is strong and powerful and everyone can relate to it. I guess the lyrics, music, and the voice are my top elements in this competition.

E+: Have you started to prepare your stage performance for “MESC 2016”? Can you reveal us anything about the staging?

Simple yet effective.

E+: Do you usually watch Eurovision? What are your favorites songs of the history of the competition?

Yes, I watch Eurovision and my favourite entry is ‘Me and My Guitar’ by Tom Dice.

E+: If you could choose a Eurovision former participant to sing along with, who would it be?

I would choose Tom Dice.

E+: Besides Eurovision, what are your plans for this year?

My plans are to maybe evolve more regarding singing and taking life step by step.

E+: Finally, can you send a message for our readers and Eurovision fans?
