Interview Eurovision Eurovision 2016 Denmark

David Jay: “Rays of Sunlight represents a good vibe with high energy” (Danish finalist – Exclusive Interview)

ESC+Plus has talked to David Jay, finalist of this year’s Danish national selection for Eurovision. David will perform “Rays of Sunlight” in the DMGP final to take place on Saturday.

ESC+Plus: Hello! First of all, thank you for your time and congratulations on having been selected to take part in the Danish national selection for Eurovision.

E+: Can you tell us about you, your musical career and important achievements?

I’ve always been a big fan of all types of music. In 2011, I decided to prove to myself that I could finish the process of creating a song and matching it with visuals to complete my creative thoughts. It lead to over 3 1/2 years of radio rotation on Swedish P3 Radio – Din Gata 100,6 FM plus a continues building attention towards my music. In 2014, I won the ”Upcoming Artist” of The Year at the African Achievement Awards plus headlining on my first German Tour in 2015.

E+: What impelled you to take part in “DMGP 2016”?

I was contacted by Cutfarther who asked me if I was interested in singing a demo for a song that might make it, I was honored by just being considered for that, as time passed the song really grew on me and I made the decision to say yes.

E+: How did you feel when you knew you had qualified for the final? Did you expect it?

Once again I was honoured because I know how big of a deal it is to many (Danes), and to be in a position to maybe represent your country is a huge thing, and it definitely gave me an extra boost to push harder to hopefully reach yet another goal in my career.

E+: Can you tell us about your song? What is the story behind the lyrics?

”Rays Of Sunlight” is a great song, it represents a good vibe with high energy and a free pass to let loose and just dance and have fun. Bryan Rice and Christoffer Stjerne did a really good job on creating that atmosphere.

E+: Why do you think your song has to be selected for Stockholm? What are you strengths to reach the top in the competition?

The song has international standards, in my perspective a song that a lot of people can relate to. As for me, I’ve been performing for a while and I believe I’m ready to show the world how a regular guy from Copenhagen proved that from hard work and dedication all is possible.

E+: Have you started to prepare your stage performance for “DMGP 2016”?

Yes, my preparations have already begun and I’m getting more excited everyday, we are in the process of working on getting better as a team.

E+: Besides Eurovision, what are your plans for this year?

My plan is to keep touring, release new material and hopefully inspire and connect with even more followers and supporters around the world.

E+: Finally, can you send a message for our readers and Eurovision fans?

I am honoured to be a part of the history and the DMGP family, and I hope to perform my song at Eurovision in Stockholm and make my mom and dad the two proudest and happiest people on earth!

E+: Thanks for your time and good luck!
