Interview Eurovision Eurovision 2015 Romania

Blue Noise: “The unity of this project is the ability to transform our voices in any instrument in real-time” (Romanian finalists – Interview)

ESC+Plus has talked to Blue Noise, participants of the Romanian national selection for Eurovision 2015 “Selectia Nationala”. The band will sing “Love Won’t Run Away” in the final to take place tomorrow.

ESC+Plus: Hello! Firstly, congratulations on having been selected to compete at Selectia Nationala 2015.

Thank you very much. We are thrilled to be in the Romanian selection.

E+: Can you tell us about your musical evolution and important achievements?

We are an a capella group, therefore we perform without musical instruments. In fact, we are the only a capella group in Romania and the first one to compete in the Eurovision final.  The has six members (soprano, mezzo-soprano, alto, tenor, bass, beatbox and live fx) and the unity of this project is the ability to transform our voices in any instrument, in real-time . We have a strong background of jazz and classical music and this gives the ability to explore many genres, including pop music. We were invited to perform in many  a capella and jazz festivals, gaining appreciation in our country.

E+: Why did you decide to take part in the Romanian selection for Eurovision 2015?

We want to create more awareness on  a capella music  and to let people know what human voices can do. It’s been a great experience so far and we are looking forward to our live performance

E+: What it would mean for you to represent Romania in Vienna?

It would definitely be an honour and a huge responsibility.  It would also be a chance for us to show Europe that Romania holds musicians that are engaging in interesting and powerful projects.

E+: Can you tell us about your song “Love Won’t Run Away” and the story behind the lyrics? How was the composition procedure?

It was actually a teamwork. First we came up with the music and lyrics. With this song, we’re trying to say that real feelings and values never disappear as long as you hold on to them.  The real challenge was to recreate vocally all the live fx, the synths, violins, drums and of course the harmony of the song. Everything that you hear on the track is made exclusively vocal and this is what makes it special.

E+: Have your started to prepare your stage performance? Can you reveal us anything about it?

We are not allowed to share secrets 🙂  but we can assure the audience that they will have a different and unique experience. The Blue Noise experience 🙂

E+: What are your main strengths so as to get the jury and people support to reach Eurovision?

As said, our voices and the ability to transform them in real-time is our main strength, but we also believe in our song and its message.

E+: What can this competition contribute to your musical careers?

It would be an acknowledgment  for our work and dedication.

E+: Do you have any favourite song among the other Romanian finalists?

We appreciate all the participants in this competition. Some of them are very young and talented and others are already established artists.  However, we do feel close to the message that the song “De la capat” from Voltaj is transmitting. We salute their noble cause and we appreciate it when musicians try to make a difference in the world.  Music is, in the end, a universal language.

E+: Do you usually watch Eurovision? Do you have any favorite song in history of the contest?

Watching Eurovision every year is already a tradition for us. We have to admit that we were all impressed by Loreen’s performance in 2012. It was a very good song that went very well with the choreography and we would like to see her perform live another time.

E+: What is your favourite music style? Do you have any favourite singer?

The six of us have favorite artists, but when it comes to the group preferences, we are big fans of  The Swingle Singers and The Real Group. These are the a capella groups that are a source of inspiration and also role models for us.

E+: Besides Eurovision, what are your plans for this year?

Our plan is to perform as often as we can and to record an album with original songs.  We’ve already started working on the material and we can’t wait for you to listen to it.

E+: Finally, would you like to send a message for our readers?

First of all we want to thank them for their trust. We hope they will enjoy our performance and we encourage them to vote for something different 🙂 We would also like to keep in touch with them on our Facebook Page: www.facebook.com/wearebluenoise
