Aurelian Temișan & Alexa: “Chica Latina” is a fun song so, the lyrics came pretty easy” (Romanian finalists – Interview)

ESC+Plus has talked to Aurelian Temișan & Alexa, finalists of the Romanian national selection for Eurovision 2015 “Selectia Nationala”. The duet will sing “Chica Latina” in the final set on March 8.

ESC+Plus: Hello! Firstly congratulations on having been selected to compete at Selectia Nationala 2015.

Aurelian & Alexa: Thank you very much ! We are happy to be here , it’s a very exciting time for us!

E+: Can you tell us about you, your musical evolution and important achievements?

Alexa: I always wanted to perform ever since I was a young girl and of course  to work in showbiz. I had the chance to be in several  talent shows  like “Star school”  and “ Megastar” where I was runner-up.  I performed on many stages and I also  worked in television and radio as a reporter and a presenter and got the chance to present a famous contest in London (UK) called “Global Battle of the bands.”

Aurelian: I’ve been in the music industry for 25 years and my biggest achievements are national …until now.

 

 

E+: How did you decide to take part at Selectia Nationala 2015 as a duet?

Alexa: It was our composer’s idea ( Mihai Alexandru) to bring us together for this song. I was very excited for I knew Aurelian for a very long time , as he is one of the biggest names in music in Romania.

Aurelian: Well, good energies come together. The last time I was in the national Esc  finale was 12 years ago when I lost to Mihai’s song that went to represent Romania that year in the international finale. And now here I am again , this time in the same team with Mihai and Alexa.  I knew Alexa from before, I saw her in several shows on tv. And I’m very pleased to be in this formula and I dare to say a strong formula.

E+: What it would mean for you to represent Romania in Vienna?

Aurelian: It would mean a big responsibility. I know my way on the stage and of course  no matter how many people are in the public ,  the audience  can only make me be better and share my message to them.

Alexa: I’m agree with Aurelian. It would mean a huge thing not only for us, but for the Romanian people. We would only work harder and make our people be proud . This is what we intend on doing, this would be our goal. And of course, make the whole of Europe dance and feel good.

E+: Can you tell us about your song “Chica Latina” and the story behind the lyrics? How was the composition procedure?

Alexa: I will answer this one for I was one of the lyricists. The idea of the “ Chica Latina” was our composers Mihai Alexandru.

He called me one evening and asked me to write some lyrics for a little musical bit he had  worked on. I liked the idea and so I wrote what came in my mind. It’s a fun song so, the lyrics came pretty easy.

 

E+: Why did you decide to sing some fragments of the song in Spanish?

Alexa: In the last few years , there has been a trend of combining two languages in a song so it was naturally that because the chorus was about the “Chica Latina”, it should contain a little bit of latin flavour and also English so that everyone can understand it and sing-a –long.

E+: Have your started to prepare your stage performance? Can you reveal us anything about it?

Aurelian and Alexa: Yes, we are right now in the process of rehearsing and hopefully you will like what you see in the night of the Finale.

E+: What are your main strengths so as to get the jury and people support to reach Eurovision?

Aurelian: I think first of all  the song , our positive attitude , it’s direct message and the joy of the show.

Alexa: It’s a happy song , but a song that shows our vocals as well. So positive attitudes feel-good song – voices and show with a touch of mystery might be a good formula.

E+: Do you have any favourite song among other Romanian finalists?

Alexa: I think there are a lot of nice songs in the competition but I can’t decide which one I like most.

Aurelian: I can’t say it’s my favourite but  I like one, I will tell you after the Finale.

E+: Do you usually watch Eurovision? Do you have any favorite song in the history of the contest?

Alexa: I’ve watched the Eurovision contest every year since I can remember and I’ve always wanted to be a part of the show. My favourite songs  have to be Loreen’s “Euphoria”, Emmelie de Forest- “Only Teardrops” and of course Abba- Waterloo.

Aurelian: My favourite song remains Johnny Logan’s-„ Hold me now” in 1986, a time when melodicity and feelings were put above the noise and the simple beat of the song. It was the year I started hoping I will someday get to be on that big international Eurovision stage .

 

E+: What is your favourite music style? Do you have any favorite singer?

Alexa: I love to sing all sorts of styles, mostly pop, rock and sometimes soul and I enjoy relaxing to jazz and chill out music from time to time.  I’m a big fan of Kelly Clarkson, Beyoncé , Justin Timberlake and Coldplay. Just to name a few.

Aurelian: I’m a pop singer , therefore I love pop music and I always enjoyed Tom Jones, Elvis . I really like George Michael, prince, Engelbet Humperdink but I have to say that pop music is my cup of tea.

E+: Besides Eurovision, what are your plans for this year?

Alexa: I will be preparing new songs to release and I will continue to work at the show “Cronica carcotasilor” where I present a funny column about people’s general knowledge. And there are more to come of course.

Aurelian: After Eurovision, my collaboration with Alexa surely won’t end. I am preparing a big show called “ Temisan and Divas “ where Alexa is invited too among other big Romanian female singers.   I will continue being a judge  in the Romanian version of “ Tu cara me suena”. I will be performing with my band “ the Funk Society” and of course I will keep recording new songs.
