Greece: ERT approves Eurovision 2016 participation!

Greece is not going through great moments for the past years, specifically the past few months where the financial, economical and political problems have even risen up. At least, they will be holding the upcoming legislative elections next September 20th but despite this, the recently and surprising come-back of the public broadcaster, ERT, who had disappeared 2 years ago leaving the door open to a new but not permanent new channel, NERIT, has eventually see green light. This channel has been in charge of the Greek Eurovision participation for 3 years, co-organizing the national final with well-known private music TV channel, MAD TV.

But it seems, it will no longer happen, as Greek journal Enimerosi24 reports that ERT’s board has approved organizing and being in charge of all preparations and details regarding the 2016 Greek entry for the Eurovision Song Contest in Stockholm. The report has been later on detailed on iNewsgr.com, which says:

“ERT’s Board has approved hosting a National Final for the 61st Eurovision Song Contest”.

We still don’t know whether the broadcaster will opt for a national selection with MAD TV or this co-operation would have already finished for 2016 , even though they could still go for an internal selection process. More details will be revealed shortly when ERT confirms or denies the news emerging about this.

This year, Cypriot-born singer Maria Elena-Kyriakou represented the country in Vienna, but unfortunately, she only managed to rank 19th in the grand final. Who will they select for Sweden? Stay tuned for upcoming news about the Greek participation at the 61st Eurovision Song Contest in Sweden.
