Finland: UMK 2020 candidates revealed

YLE has just announced the 6 acts that will compete at UMK 2020. The broadcaster is back to an open procedure to select the Eurovision performer and song after two years of internal choices. UMK 2020 Final will be held on March 7th at the Mediapolis TV studio in Tampere.

Back in November, YLE released a call for songs and artists for the Eurovision Song Contest 2020. From all 426 submissions received, a 10-member expert panel selected the 6 entries that will take part in the Finnish final:

  • Tika – I Let my Heart Break
  • Erika Vikman – Cicciolina
  • Aksel Kankaanranta – Looking Back
  • F3M – Bananas
  • Sansa – Lover View
  • Catharina Zühlke – Eternity

You can watch the reveal of the UMK candidates below:

YLE will release the competing songs every working day starting this Friday.

The 2020 Finnish representative will be selected from a live show that will take place on 7th March 2020 at TV studio Mediapolis in Tampere. Tickets won’t be available to purchase due to the limited capacity of the studio, but everyone that wishes to attend the show will be able to register on February 3 at 08.00 CET (09.00 local time) on UMK’s official website.

This year, YLE has cooperated with YleX Radio to organise UMK 2020 and give a chance to amateur singers:

We want to cooperate to look for the most competitive songs. This will also give amateur singers new opportunities. YleX, which has been awarded a national prize, has already supported new Finnish talents and composers., said Anssi Autio YLE UMK producer, and Hanne Kautto, YleX programme manager.

This decision supports the public choice of an open national selection in which the audience and experts will decide the Eurovision act, as the winner will be determined jointly by TV viewers and an international jury panel.  The public will be able to vote either for free via YLE’s App or by sending an SMS.

Krista Siegfrids y Mikko Silvennoinen will be the hosts of UMK.
